Report: If no immigrants continue to flow into the United States, there is a risk of economic stagnation
China Daily, August 26 (Xinhua) - The National Policy Foundation of the United States recently released a report stating that without sustained net inflows of immigrants, the working age population in the United States will decrease by more than 6 million by 2040 compared to 2022, which may put the country at risk of economic stagnation and a decline in living standards.
The report states that the United States will need more workers with professional skills in the future, including in projects such as artificial intelligence, national infrastructure, and semiconductors. Many workers require years of education and training to obtain them, but the low birth rate and aging population in the United States are not enough to meet the demand for labor.
The report points out that international migration is the only potential source of growth for the working age population in the United States in the coming years.
