Reminder from the park: Do not attempt to capture the water giant lizard that has been on display in Hong Kong for over 8 years, reaching up to 1.5 meters. The water giant lizard fled to Hong Kong and was pushed down
On the morning of the 18th, the Kadoorie Farm and Botanical Garden in Hong Kong posted on its social media page that a water giant lizard, which had been on display for over 8 years at the park's reptile viewing platform, was being treated for a toe injury in a temporary exhibition area on the 11th. During the treatment, a wooden board on the fence was knocked down and slipped away from a small gap.
The park has promptly reported missing animals to relevant departments in accordance with the special permit procedures for wildlife rescue work.
It is understood that the water giant lizard, commonly known as the "Five Clawed Golden Dragon," is a nationally protected wild animal. With a body length of up to 3 meters and a lifespan of up to 30 years, it mainly feeds on fish, frogs, shrimp, mice, and other reptiles. It also preys on birds, insects, and bird eggs on trees, occasionally eating animal carcasses, and may even crawl into villages to steal poultry.

Kadoorie Farm stated that "Aberdeen" was relocated to settle on the farm after being rescued in an illegal pet trade. For 8 years here, it has been serving as an animal ambassador, helping thousands of visitors understand the living habits of reptiles. The animal caregiver who has been with it for many years misses it very much and is very worried about it getting injured or dying in accidents on busy traffic roads.

Huang Langyan, Secretary of the Adoption Department of the Hong Kong Amphibious and Reptilian Association, stated that Aberdeen may still be located near water sources such as Kadoorie Farm, Tai Mo Shan, or Lam Village. Although it is not aggressive, there will be a significant reaction to food.

If entering residential areas such as Lin Village, it may harm cats and dogs, so he called on owners to pay more attention. If citizens discover their presence, they should not actively contact or lure them with food. They should notify the staff of Kadoorie Farm as soon as possible.
