American comics are a bit politically incorrect, but it's quite interesting to read.
In 2023, it's a bit of a bad time.
To be frank, what we have seen and heard recently are mostly bad news, such as the wildfires in the United States, floods in China, conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, turmoil in Africa, as well as the bad water in Japan and the poor economies of many countries
The more it is like this, the more good news is needed.
In my personal opinion, there have been at least three interesting pieces of good news recently.
Good news one, Guatemala has a little surprise.
The political changes in this Central American country have now made some politicians in Taiwan province very nervous.
Because the latest election statistics show that the son of the former president and the general secretary of the "Seed Movement" party, Arevalo, won the election.
This Arevalo has previously publicly stated that once elected, he will recognize the One China principle and establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China.
In fact, the outside world already has such expectations. I remember not long ago, when a reporter asked the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs how to comment, Wang Wenbin immediately replied: the fact that 182 countries have established diplomatic relations with China fully proves that establishing diplomatic relations with China is the correct choice to follow the trend of historical development and the trend of progress of the times.
Specifically, when it comes to Guatemala, Wang Wenbin said: China is Guatemala's second largest source of imports and fifth largest export destination. Recognizing the One China principle and developing relations with China are in line with the fundamental interests of the Guatemalan country and people.
"We hope that Guatemala chooses to stand on the right side of history and make the right choices that are in line with the fundamental and long-term interests of its own country and people," said Wang Wenbin.
Guatemala, a distant country. We may not be familiar with it, but this correct decision is good news for Guatemala and China, right.
Good news two, some Western media can't bear to watch anymore.
We don't have to avoid it either. Various criticisms, even smearing and demonizing China, are the specialties of some Western media.
We have solved the problems of hunger, beating, and scolding, but we have not yet fundamentally solved them.
But a respected teacher of mine sent me a screenshot a few days ago and exclaimed, "The Economist has finally spoken for China.".
I carefully read it, and indeed, The Economist, which has always been sarcastic about China, can't bear to read it anymore. It criticizes the United States' strategy towards China as "expensive and dangerous.".
Why do you say that?
The article in the screenshot points out that in the past few decades, the United States has been an advocate of trade and capital globalization, which has brought great benefits to both the United States and the world. However, now the United States is taking the opposite path, but this has not actually impacted the Chinese economy.
Moreover, it is even more ironic that the United States' risk-free approach actually promotes economic cooperation between China and other exporting countries, which is actually detrimental to the United States; Moreover, the indifference of the United States towards trade agreements has led many countries to believe that the United States is an unreliable partner, and if asked to make a choice between China and the United States, they may not be on Uncle Sam's side.
The final conclusion is that the US government's "de risk" approach will make the world not safer, but more dangerous.
America, America, even The Economist couldn't help pointing out your mistake when you did this.
Of course, let's listen to the negative and positive comments from Western media. The most fundamental thing is to do our own things well.
Good news three, the BRICS countries are about to achieve historic expansion.
This may be the biggest good news recently, not one.
If nothing unexpected happens, this BRICS summit is not only a historic summit, but also a historic expansion.
According to the host country South Africa, at least 20 countries are queuing up to apply to join the BRICS.
Why?
Because more and more countries are seeing hope in the BRICS countries, it feels like they have finally found an organization.
The South African BRICS envoy explained that the continuous marginalization has caused widespread frustration among developing countries, prompting them to turn to the BRICS group as they are striving to create a multipolar and more inclusive world.
He emphasized, "We are no longer weak and powerless, and developing countries are exercising their rights to have equal say in determining the future direction of this emerging multipolar world."
Even in India, Indian Foreign Minister Su Jiesheng recently lamented, "The BRICS countries are no longer a 'substitute', but an established feature on the global stage. The reform significance represented by the BRICS countries is bound to spread throughout the world of multilateralism."
Many developing countries have seen hope for national development, especially from China and other countries.
China used to be very poor and bullied by the West, but now that China has stood up and become rich, why can't other countries achieve what China can?
Who would be the lucky ones to expand?
I don't know, but I think there are several countries ahead, such as Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, and so on. Of course, there are Türkiye, Iran, Mexico and many other countries behind.
I don't know whether the final expansion will be 5+3, 5+4, or 5+5, but I can be certain that it will further strengthen the power of the BRICS, increase the voice of developing countries, and have significant and far-reaching impacts on the global governance system and pattern.
In this world, the seven countries should not and cannot have the final say. BRICS has its own aspirations and responsibilities.
Of course, every coin has two sides. Expanding capacity will inevitably lead to an increase in negotiation costs and a decrease in problem-solving efficiency. How to seek benefits and avoid harm also tests the wisdom of the BRICS.
Three good news, of course, there are actually quite a few good news in this world.
From a domestic perspective, the economy is indeed facing severe challenges, but at least our new energy vehicles stand out, leaving the world amazed; Our film and television tourism market is very hot, and 2023 is definitely a big year
From an international perspective, in the face of pressure from the United States, more and more countries have made it clear that they will never take sides, and the words of the United States are not so effective; China's relations with many countries such as ASEAN, the Middle East, and Africa are actually constantly deepening, and there are still many good friends
Of course, there is more bad news, and we don't have to avoid it either.
But in this world, there will always be challenges. What should we do? There are not many good ways, only by gritting one's teeth, maintaining composure, working together, and striving to do oneself well, can we turn danger into danger and have an opportunity in the end.
This tests our composure, and more importantly, our wisdom.
I hope to hear more good news in the future.
