The reporter learned from China Railway Qinghai Tibet Group Co., Ltd. that the switch replacement and signal system renovation project of the Gela section of the Qinghai Tibet Railway has been fully completed and officially put into operation on July 1st.
The project crosses the 1142 km railway line from Golmud, Qinghai Province to Lhasa, Xizang Autonomous Region. The average altitude of 56 stations involved in the project is 4455 meters, including 48 stations with an altitude of more than 4000 meters. The project started construction on June 30, 2022, and completed various inspections by the end of May 2023. 126 sets of 50 kg/m main line turnouts at 32 stations on the Qinghai Tibet Railway's Gra section were replaced and upgraded to 60 kg/m turnouts. The signal system technology transformation was carried out at 56 stations, and supporting renovation projects such as communication, power, and building construction were implemented.
In response to the harsh natural environment at the construction site, multiple construction sites with long lines, frequent construction hours in the early morning hours, and high construction labor intensity, more than 4000 builders have fully promoted the spirit of "challenging the limits and creating first-class" on the Qinghai Tibet Railway, fighting against the wind and snow day and night. After the completion and operation of the Gela section, it can further meet the operational needs of the Qinghai Tibet Railway, comprehensively improve the operational safety, reliability, comfort, and risk resistance of the Qinghai Tibet Railway, and reduce the maintenance workload and operating costs in high-altitude environments.
