"Putin will receive them soon" Ramaphosa | Africa | Putin
According to the website of the Russian Business Consulting Daily on June 7th, Russian President Putin promised to receive an African delegation to Ukraine in the near future during a phone call with South African President Ramaphosa.
According to reports released on the Kremlin website, Putin and Ramaphosa had a phone conversation to discuss issues related to the peace initiative of the African country Ukraine.
According to reports, the Kremlin News Agency reported, "Both sides have agreed that Putin will receive a delegation composed of several African heads of state in the near future."
Ramafosa announced on May 16 that Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelensky had agreed to hold separate talks with African leaders to discuss possible solutions to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Ramafosa said that the leaders of Zambia, Senegal, Congo, Uganda, and Egypt plan to form a delegation with him to visit Russia and Ukraine.
The report states that the Russian and Ukrainian authorities have expressed their willingness to receive the delegation. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that they have not yet seen the initiatives of African countries on paper. Kiev welcomes the delegation's intention, but declares its intention to propose its own peace plan. Russia has ruled out the possibility of mediating the situation according to Kiev's request.
According to reports, Putin and Ramaphosa also discussed the preparations for the second Russia Africa summit to be held in St. Petersburg at the end of July, as well as the BRICS summit to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa in August.
Regarding the August BRICS summit in South Africa, Reuters previously reported that South Africa is studying various plans to hold the event to avoid enforcing the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant for Putin.
The report states that unlike South Africa, Russia does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court. At the end of May, South Africa announced that all participants enjoyed diplomatic immunity. This means that participants will not be subject to the jurisdiction of the host country and cannot be arrested or detained.
