On June 22nd local time, senior members of the opposition Justice Party in South Korea visited Fukushima, Japan to protest against Japan's plan to discharge nuclear wastewater into the sea.
According to a report by Yonhap News Agency on the 22nd, the visiting delegation is composed of senior officials such as Pei Jinjiao, the whip of the Justice Party, Li Enzhou, the deputy whip of the Party, and Jiang Enmei, the leader of the Justice Party's Fukushima Nuclear Sewage Blocking and Drainage Special Working Group. This visit will last for three days.
During an interview with the media at the airport, Pei Jinjiao stated that concerns among South Korean citizens about Fukushima nuclear wastewater discharge have reached their peak. However, from the attitude of the South Korean government, it is difficult not to doubt whether the government has negotiated with Japan regarding Fukushima nuclear wastewater discharge.
Li Enzhou stated that it is expected that with the coordination of the Social Democratic Party of Japan, the visiting delegation can enter the nuclear power plant for inspection.
On the first day of the visit, the Justice Party delegation will meet with Japan's largest opposition to nuclear wastewater discharge, the Zero Nuclear and Renewable Energy 100 Member of Parliament, to discuss the issue of forming an international network to prevent nuclear wastewater discharge. The visiting delegation also plans to jointly visit Tokyo Electric Power Company with members of the Japanese Social Democratic Party and hold a press conference. In addition, they will also hold symposiums with Japanese citizen groups.
On the second day of the visit, the visiting delegation will visit the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant together with experts in the radiation field to confirm the land within the plant that can be used to store contaminated water. After participating in radiation research expert symposiums, protests against the discharge of contaminated water, and other activities, the visiting delegation will return to China on the 24th.
