Eight children and one adult were stabbed, with an average age of only three years old. Among them, three children were seriously injured.
After the attack, the French National Assembly observed a minute of silence. French President Macron tweeted, "Children and adults are between life and death. The whole country is in shock. We are with the injured and their families."
The police and officials from the French Ministry of the Interior stated that the attack occurred at 9:45 am on the 8th, when a group of school children were heading to Lake Annasy in the French Alps. A man with a knife attacked these children in a park by the lake.
According to Reuters, witnesses stated that at least one child was still sitting in a baby stroller at the time of the attack. A police officer told Reuters that the attacker was a Syrian refugee.
The police warn that the number of injuries may continue to rise. The police also stated that the suspect has been arrested, but the motive for the crime is unknown.
