On August 10th, Jiang Hong, the director of Xiangya Third Hospital at Central South University, told Pengpai News that the hospital has preliminary investigation results regarding the joint reporting of the director of the department by 9 medical staff. After verification by higher authorities, the investigation results will be disclosed in detail to the public.

The Xiangya Third Hospital of Central South University, located in Changsha, Hunan, has recently been embroiled in a public opinion controversy. Nine medical staff from the Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine Department of the hospital jointly reported the director of the department, Meng Jie. Starting from August 8th, a 5-page report letter has been circulating online. On the morning of August 10th, Pengpai News reported on this matter.
Meng Jie, who was reported, is a professor and chief physician. She previously served as the deputy director of the respiratory department at Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. In 2020, she was transferred from Xiangya Hospital to Xiangya Third Hospital as the director of the respiratory department. The 9 medical staff members who reported her under real name were mostly doctors from the department.
A joint report letter from nine people stated that Meng Jie, who served as the director of the respiratory department at Xiangya Third Hospital for three years, did not attach importance to medical quality and safety, and allowed her student and then unqualified Zou to undergo bronchoscopy and other medical activities alone, resulting in two deaths of patients after bronchoscopy in May and August 2022. "At that time, he had worked for less than one year and was a probationary employee without any surgical operation qualifications authorized by the national medical administrative department or our hospital's medical department."
The report letter also reflects issues such as Meng Jie's one-sided management, covert operation of performance distribution, private establishment of a small treasury, and financial non disclosure.
"For the future of respiratory science, we cannot remain silent anymore... We sincerely hope that the voices of frontline medical workers will be taken seriously," the informant wrote in the letter.
On August 9th, a reporter from Pengpai News went to Xiangya Third Hospital to inquire about the situation. Several respiratory staff members politely refused to interview, and the reporter did not find Meng Jie who was reported.
On August 10th, the reporter contacted Meng Jie by phone. "Our hospital is conducting verification and I cannot answer any of your questions," Meng Jie said before hanging up the phone.
Is the report by 9 medical staff on Meng Jie true? On August 10th, Pengpai News contacted Jiang Hong, the director of Xiangya Third Hospital.
"We are currently conducting relevant investigations... The hospital has preliminary results," Jiang Hong said. The hospital's investigation results still need to be verified by the school and the health department, and then released to the public through the school's publicity department.
"The specific results in the future will definitely be disclosed in detail to society," Jiang Hong said.
