On June 25th, the world's largest and highest altitude water solar complementary project, the Kola Phase I photovoltaic power station, was connected to the grid for power generation, marking the official launch of the world's first million kilowatt level "water solar complementary" power station.
The Kela Phase I Photovoltaic Power Station is located in Garze Prefecture, Sichuan Province. The highest elevation of the site is 4600 meters, with an installed capacity of 1 million kilowatts. The site covers an area of 16 million square meters, equivalent to about 2000 standard football fields. The steel used for the photovoltaic support is nearly 50000 tons, which is equivalent to rebuilding a "Bird's Nest" sports stadium.
The power station is connected to the Lianghekou hydropower station, which is 50 kilometers away and has an installed capacity of 3 million kilowatts, through a 500 kV transmission line, to achieve photovoltaic power generation and hydroelectric power transmission. The average annual power generation of the power station is 2 billion kilowatt hours, which can save over 600000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 1.6 million tons per year.

Due to factors such as cold and high-altitude climate conditions and complex construction environments, the effective construction period of the Kola Phase I photovoltaic power station is less than 6 months. The builders, facing the natural environment of 50% lower oxygen content, 90% higher ultraviolet radiation, and a maximum temperature difference of 30 degrees Celsius between day and night compared to plain areas, have overcome more than 10 technical difficulties and created a precedent for large-scale photovoltaic projects to be continuously constructed in high-altitude and cold regions in winter. In May of this year, 300 box type transformers were installed and high-voltage cables were laid for over 100 kilometers at the Kola Photovoltaic Power Station. The electrical equipment passed all electrical tests in one go, effectively ensuring the timely delivery of water solar complementary clean energy to thousands of households.
Qi Ningchun, Chairman of Guotou Yalong River Basin Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., introduced that with the commissioning of the Kela Power Station, the clean energy installed capacity of Yalong River Company will exceed 20 million kilowatts, accounting for 1/5 of the total clean energy installed capacity in Sichuan Province, and contributing nearly 100 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually.
