Chengdu, August 7th (Xinhua) - "Although this city is a bit 'spicy', we have had a very pleasant time here." On the 5th, after the game against the Romanian team, the captain of the Portuguese women's basketball team at the Chengdu Universiade, Carolina Rodriguez, gave an interview to a reporter from People's Daily.
Karolina, who is 24 years old this year, is studying at Lisbon Institute of Technology. This is her second time representing Portugal in the women's basketball event at the Universiade. The Portuguese women's basketball team won a bronze medal at the previous Naples Universiade, but Karolina believes that the Chengdu Universiade poses a greater challenge for them.

"We only came two days early and had to adapt to the 7-hour time difference to adjust our state to the best, which was a considerable challenge," said Karolina.

Karolina was deeply impressed by the work of organizing the Chengdu Universiade. "You can find volunteers anywhere, whether it's the Universiade Village, training ground, or competition field. They always provide help and service with smiles on their faces. Today, a few volunteers even gave us brooches and pins, and we exchanged bracelets with each other. They are really very friendly and enthusiastic."

Some of the "high-tech" in the Dayun Village also impressed Karolina. "I have never seen these things before in Portugal. For example, there are robots making coffee and robots dancing in the cafeteria, and these experiences are really interesting."
The fully equipped room facilities, clean and tidy training venue, high-speed and stable network signals, and timely and reasonable event arrangements all made this Portuguese girl highly praise the organization of the Chengdu Universiade.
However, the only downside is that the food in Chengdu is too spicy for her. "I'm not used to eating spicy food, but the locals' standards for 'not spicy' seem to be somewhat different from ours. Even 'not spicy' food can make me sweat profusely."

Due to the long duration of the women's basketball tournament, these Portuguese girls are working tirelessly every day to prepare and have not had time to fully experience the charm of Chengdu. "This is my first time coming to China, and it's very different from my hometown. Chengdu is a big city with a sea of people and it's very interesting. I hope after the competition, we can have time to better experience the local life."

Karolina said that being able to compete in such a large venue, with every game fully booked, is a very valuable experience. The Chengdu Universiade made them feel at home. Although most of them were Chinese spectators, they not only supported the Chinese team but also other teams, which inspired them greatly. "We felt warmth in Chengdu and the competition here was very enjoyable."
