As of June 15th, 22-year-old Zhang Jinwu has lost contact with his family for nearly 50 days. "We have learned that he may have been tricked into going to Myanmar by his junior high school classmate Li," Zhang Jinwu's sister Zhang Xiaoling told Red Star News. Currently, his family has reported the case to the Henan Coast Police Station in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province and the Jinghai Police Station of Huilai County Public Security Bureau, and the police have intervened in the investigation.
Zhang Jinwu is from Huilai County, Jieyang City, Guangdong Province. According to Zhang Xiaoling, my younger brother has been studying with his family who have been working in Huizhou since childhood and has studied at Huizhou Wangsheng Middle School. "He was scammed into engaging in telecommunications fraud in Myanmar, and we believe that his classmate Li is highly suspected." Zhang Xiaoling said that Li was a junior high school classmate of Zhang Jinwu. After the incident, Li asked her to raise 100000 yuan to help redeem Zhang Jinwu.
Zhang Jinwu's mother, Fang Yueming, told Red Star News that the last time their family contacted Zhang Jinwu was on April 30, 2023. Later on, we were unable to contact each other again, and the whole family was very anxious.
"My younger brother is the kind of person who can't do without his phone for 24 hours, but he has been missing for almost 50 days now," said Zhang Xiaoling. After the incident, they learned through the police and airport that Zhang Jinwu had already flown from Shenzhen Bao'an Airport to Bangkok, Thailand as early as April 22.
According to Zhang Jinwu's friend Xiaolin, after arriving in Thailand, Zhang Jinwu flew around and has been transferred to Myanmar. The location shows that he is "working" in Palau County, Myanmar.
"The so-called work is to learn computers, use software to disguise as female voices, and then package them as Bai Fumei to commit fraud." On June 15th, Xiaolin told Red Star News that according to the content revealed by Zhang Jinwu in multiple WeChat chats, he was deceived by a middle school classmate in Huizhou, Li, who "said to go there to make quick money.".
The chat content shows that on April 26th, 27th, and 30th, Xiaolin chatted with Zhang Jinwu multiple times, but after May 1st, he couldn't reach the other party.
Earlier, Zhang Jinwu recorded his chat history with Li and sent it to Xiaolin. The chat records obtained by Red Star News show that Zhang Jinwu was already in northern Myanmar at the time, and he also sent the location to Li. At that time, Li said, "Boundary.". Zhang Jinwu replied, "Some people who can't do it well just hit someone with an electric baton.". Li said, "That's disobedient.". Zhang Jinwu replied, "That's not what you introduced yet.". Li replied, "Sand sculpture.".
In addition, Zhang Jinwu suggested that Li "take himself back". "I'm not in the mood to joke with you, you better find a reason to take me back!" In response, Li said, "What do I say now? I'm going to lose money."
Xiaolin told Red Star News that previously, Zhang Jinwu told him that there were walls around his workplace, and there were people patrolling with guns on the high walls. He worked from 8am to 6pm every day and often couldn't hold his phone.
According to the call recording provided by Zhang Xiaoling to Red Star News, on May 14th, Li asked her to prepare 50000 to 60000 yuan in order to bring back Zhang Jinwu. Zhang Jinwu's family readily agreed to this, but then Li changed his mind and said, "Let's raise 100000 yuan just in case.".
Zhang Jinwu's family requested to video or call Zhang Jinwu first before transferring the money. Li promised to arrange a video call with them within 3 to 5 days, but Zhang Jinwu's family has not had the opportunity to talk to him yet. In a hurry, Zhang Xiaoling texted Li and was subsequently blacklisted, and the other party no longer answered the phone.
But from Li's earlier conversation with Zhang Xiaoling, he did not admit that Zhang Jinwu was the one who got him out. He said, "Your brother ran out on his own." Later, Zhang Jinwu's family reported to the police, and the Henan Provincial Police Station in Huizhou also contacted Li. At present, Li no longer answers calls from Zhang Jinwu's family, including Red Star News reporters. After multiple attempts to call his number, he has never answered or replied to messages.
The Henan Provincial Police Station told Red Star News that the local police have indeed intervened in the investigation, but details cannot be disclosed at the moment.
On June 15th, the families of Xiaolin and Zhang Jinwu went to the police station on the south bank of the river with relevant communication evidence to submit. In addition, Zhang Jinwu's mother Fang Yueming also reported to the Jinghai Police Station of the Huilai County Public Security Bureau in her hometown on June 6th, and the police station has been truthfully registered.
