According to Reuters, in the Prime Minister candidate vote held in the Thai National Assembly on July 13th, the leader of the Far Progressive Party, Pita Rinchalenra, failed to receive more than half of the support of all members of the upper and lower houses of parliament.
According to reports, the Thai parliament will vote again next week on the candidate for prime minister.
According to the Thai Constitution, the Speaker of the House of Commons serves as the President of the National Assembly, and the Speaker of the House of Lords serves as the Vice President of the National Assembly. After the establishment of the new National Assembly, the President of the National Assembly will convene all 750 members of the upper and lower houses to vote on the candidate for Prime Minister elected by each political party. The candidate who receives more than half of the support of all members of the upper and lower houses will be elected as Prime Minister.
Thailand held elections for the lower house of parliament on May 14th, electing all 500 seats. The Far Progressive Party won a total of 151 seats, becoming the largest party in the House of Commons. Later, it announced the formation of an alliance with political parties such as the Thai Party to support the leader of the Far Progressive Party, Pita, as prime minister.
