Persistence under High Temperature | Dispatcher Stays on Post to Ensure Smooth Transportation at the Station | Employees | Station
CCTV News: In recent days, Hami City in Xinjiang has experienced sustained high temperatures, with the highest temperature reaching over 40 ℃. At Hami East Station, a railway marshalling yard in eastern Xinjiang, the temperature between tracks often exceeds 50 ℃ after being exposed to scorching sun. The shunting personnel braved the high temperature and stayed at their posts, making every effort to organize trains to pick up and drop off multiple times, and to ensure smooth transportation at the station.
At 5 pm in the afternoon, the sun in Hami, Xinjiang was still scorching hot, with temperatures reaching 45 ℃. Li Shiqiang, a shunter at Hami East Station, took over his post and worked hard with his colleagues despite the hot weather. On that day, they had to complete the shunting task for 36 trains.

The Hami East Station where Li Shiqiang is located is an important freight hub of the Lanzhou Xinjiang Railway, responsible for the grouping and transfer of freight trains entering and exiting Xinjiang. The continuous high temperatures in recent days have brought severe "baking" tests to the shunters outside. After a long period of sun heating, the temperature of the railway tracks has already exceeded 50 ℃.
Li Shiqiang, the conductor of Class C, Second Dispatch at Hami East Station of the Hami Railway Bureau's Hami Depot, said: We have sent canvas gloves, which are twice as thick as regular line gloves. When lifting the hook, it still feels a bit hot when touching the train.

The shunting work requires walking back and forth between the tracks. After completing the changing of three trains in nearly half an hour, Li Shiqiang and his colleagues' work clothes were already soaked.
Li Shiqiang, the second dispatcher of Class C at Hami East Station of Urumqi Railway Bureau's Hami Depot, said: We have been working non-stop since taking over. Like the clothes on my body, once I go out, they get wet and dry, and then they get wet again.

During the break from work, Li Shiqiang and his team returned to the office area to adjust, took off their work clothes, and all the clothes inside were already soaked through. In order to ensure the physical health of employees in hot weather and the continuous stability of hanging and changing operations, Hami East Station has launched a cooling activity to prevent heatstroke and cool down outdoor workers.
Ma Wenbin, the duty station manager of Hami East Station at the Hami Car Service Section of the Urumqi Railway Bureau: We use the morning handover review meeting to convey high temperature warning notices to all employees, organize management personnel to transport beverages, mineral water, watermelons, and other cooling activities to on-site employees, and the team also brews mung bean soup to relieve the heat.
