Ambassador Xing Haiming Talks on China South Korea Relations and Other Issues with Lee Jae ming, Leader of the South Korean Democratic Party

On June 8th, Ambassador Xing Haiming met with Lee Jae ming, the leader of the South Korean Democratic Party, at his official residence to exchange views on China South Korea relations and the Korean Peninsula issue.

Xing Haiming stated that China and South Korea are neighbors and inseparable partners that cannot be moved away. For thousands of years, the peoples of the two countries have learned and learned from each other, jointly creating a brilliant and splendid Eastern civilization. Since modern times, in the face of Japanese imperialist aggression, the people of China and South Korea have united and supported each other, fighting side by side to achieve national independence and national liberation. 31 years ago, both sides broke the ice of the Cold War, crossed ideological barriers, and established diplomatic relations. The original intention of establishing diplomatic relations was to support and achieve mutual success among neighbors, and to get along friendly. This has led to remarkable and fruitful achievements in cooperation between the two countries in various fields. China and South Korea have formed a highly integrated and inseparable economic pattern with each other and each other in the supply chain. There is a huge market in China, and the door to opening up to the outside world has always been open. Xing Haiming emphasized that the current international situation is complex and evolving, and China South Korea relations still face challenges from external factors. I hope that the South Korean side can get rid of external factors when dealing with relations with China. The United States is making every effort to suppress China, and some people are betting that the United States will win and China will lose. This is clearly a misjudgment and they have not seen the historical trend clearly.30 years ago, some people criticized China and launched the so-called "China Collapse Theory". 30 years later, China proved the mistakes of those people with concrete achievements. People who bet on China losing now will definitely regret it in the future.

Due to various factors, there are currently public opinion issues between China and South Korea. But according to research from Tsinghua University in China, as of January this year, the score for China South Korea relations was 4.1, while the scores for China US and China Japan were only -8 and -5.6, indicating that China South Korea friendship is still mainstream. China and South Korea should cherish the hard-earned development achievements of their relationship, and with a sense of urgency of sailing against the current and retreating if not advancing, we should promote China South Korea relations to ride the wind and waves, and move forward courageously. Only in this way can we benefit the interests of both countries and their peoples, and maintain regional peace, unity, and development. The South Korean Democratic Party attaches great importance to its relations with China, actively engages in friendly exchanges and exchanges with all sectors of China, and vigorously promotes mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. Under the current situation, it is hoped that Party representatives will continue to show concern and support for China South Korea relations, and play a positive role in enhancing South Korean society's correct understanding of China and promoting the healthy and stable development of China South Korea relations.

Xing Haiming emphasized that China has always insisted on maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, adhering to the denuclearization of the Peninsula, and resolving issues through dialogue and consultation. The current situation on the peninsula is tightening again, and China calls on all parties to maintain calm and restraint, restore the "double suspension" as soon as possible, promote the cooling of the situation, and restart dialogue. During this process, relevant parties should come up with practical plans and actions to effectively address their reasonable security concerns. Xing Haiming also stated on the issue of Fukushima nuclear contaminated water in Japan that the Japanese government has repeatedly "whitened" the discharge of Fukushima nuclear contaminated water into the sea, claiming that "the water quality is harmless and the discharge is reasonable", and treating the discharge into the sea as the only option for disposing of nuclear contaminated water. However, the fact has repeatedly been criticized. The latest results show that the radioactive element cesium in the fish caught in the harbor of the Fukushima nuclear power plant exceeds the legal standard in Japan by 180 times, which is shocking. Fukushima nuclear contaminated water contains over 60 radioactive nuclides, many of which do not have effective treatment technologies. Based on existing information, it is expected that the discharge time will last for 30 years. From the date of discharge into the sea, relevant radioactive substances can spread to most of the Pacific Ocean within 57 days, and then spread to global waters 10 years later. It is extremely irresponsible for Japan to treat the Pacific Ocean as its own sewer due to economic and other interests considerations. The Japanese side may soon make a formal decision to discharge nuclear contaminated water into the sea. As close neighbors of Japan, China and South Korea should work together to prevent Japan from recklessly discharging into the sea, starting from safeguarding the safety of their own people and protecting the global marine ecological environment.
