Pentagon: North Korea provides a brief response to US soldiers crossing the border into North Korea. United Nations Command Soldiers
According to Reuters, the US Pentagon stated on August 1st that North Korea has provided a very brief response to the US led "United Nations Command" regarding the situation of a US soldier. This soldier crossed the military demarcation line between North and South Korea on July 18th and was immediately detained by the North Korean side.
However, Pentagon spokesperson Patrick Reid said that North Korea only confirmed its knowledge of the United Nations Command's request to obtain US Private Travis King and did not provide detailed information about the soldier.
"I can confirm that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has responded to the United Nations Command, but I have no substantial progress to report," Laid said at a press conference
Under questioning, Reid stated that North Korea's response to the United Nations Command was only a "confirmation" of its request.
Travis King joined the US Army in January 2021 and was previously detained in South Korea for 50 days on charges of an attack, waiting to return to the United States for disciplinary action. Jin was taken by the military and police to Incheon Airport in South Korea but did not board the plane. Later, he joined a tour group to visit Panmunjom and entered North Korea from the Panmunjom Joint Security Zone on the afternoon of July 18th local time.
