There is a solid foundation for ensuring power supply during peak summer season, and multiple key power grid projects have been completed and put into operation
CCTV News: The reporter learned from State Grid that in the past two days, multiple key power grid projects in China have been completed and put into operation to meet peak summer demand.
On June 30th, the 220 kV supporting project of the 500 kV substation in Chengdu, Sichuan was successfully delivered, marking the completion and operation of all 15 key projects of the Sichuan power grid to meet peak summer demand in 2023. It is understood that there are 15 key projects to meet peak summer demand, with a total length of 517 kilometers of newly built lines and a new substation capacity of 5.82 million kilovolt amperes. This will increase the power supply capacity of Sichuan Province by 4.78 million kilowatts, effectively alleviate the electricity pressure in multiple regions of Sichuan, and further improve the reliability of power supply.
In Hebei, the expansion project of the Beijing East 1000 kV substation was put into operation a few days ago. This project is an important transfer station for the Shandong 1000 kV ultra-high voltage AC transmission and transformation project in Xilingol League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It undertakes the important function of collecting Inner Mongolia electricity and transmitting it to the Beijing Tianjin Tang region. After the project was put into operation, the power receiving capacity of Beijing Tianjin Tang increased by 3.5 million kilowatts, doubling compared to before, effectively enhancing the power grid's ability to withstand serious faults and providing strong support for the peak summer power supply in North China.

News observation: Key power grid projects completed and put into operation during peak summer season
Since the beginning of summer, many parts of China have experienced high temperatures, leading to a continuous increase in electricity demand. Multiple departments have deployed intensively to prepare for the peak summer season, and multiple key power grid projects have been completed and put into operation, ensuring stable energy and electricity supply and stable economic and social operation.
High temperatures have led to earlier electricity consumption peaks in many parts of the country

According to data from Southern Power Grid, this week, the highest power load in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hainan provinces reached 211 million kilowatts, approaching a historical peak. According to data from State Grid of China, as of 18:00 on June 24th, the maximum load of North China Power Grid was nearly 282 million kilowatts, reaching a new high since the beginning of summer 2023.
It is expected that the overall balance of electricity supply and demand in China will be tight this summer
According to China Electricity Council, in recent years, the dual peak characteristics of electricity load in winter and summer have become increasingly apparent. Under normal climate conditions, it is expected that the highest electricity load in China will be around 1.37 billion kilowatts in 2023, an increase of 80 million kilowatts compared to 2022. If there is a long-term and large-scale extreme climate, it may increase by about 100 million kilowatts. During this year's peak summer season, it is expected that the overall electricity supply and demand in China will be tightly balanced, with some regions in the south, east, and central China experiencing tight electricity supply and demand during peak periods.

Key projects of Sichuan Power Grid completed and put into operation this summer
Faced with the continuous growth of electricity demand, multiple regions and departments are intensively deploying to prepare for the peak summer season. State Grid of China completed 239 key projects for peak summer peak season from 35 kV to 750 kV by the end of June. Among them, 15 key projects of Sichuan Power Grid to meet peak summer demand were all completed and put into operation on June 30th, with a total length of 517 kilometers of newly built lines, an additional substation capacity of 5.82 million kilovolt amperes, and an increased power supply capacity of 4.78 million kilowatts in Sichuan, further enhancing the reliability of power supply.

On June 28th, the expansion project of the Beijing East 1000 kV substation was officially put into operation. This is the first ultra-high voltage station in the Beijing Tianjin Hebei region. After operation, it can increase the power receiving capacity by 3.5 million kilowatts, effectively enhancing the power grid's ability to withstand serious faults.
All 26 key projects of Shanxi Power Grid have been put into operation
In addition, 26 key construction projects such as the reconstruction and expansion of the Hongshan to Yushe 500 kV transmission line in Shanxi Power Grid have also been put into operation, providing sufficient power guarantee for peak summer in areas such as Beijing Tianjin Hebei and East China.

Central energy enterprises deploy in advance to increase gas reserves
Thermal power is the main force in ensuring power supply, and the stable and orderly supply of coal is crucial. To cope with the rising electricity consumption since the beginning of summer, multiple central energy enterprises have deployed in advance to increase reserves of coal, gas, and other resources. Since October 2021, China National Energy Group has maintained a peak coal production of 50 million tons for 20 consecutive months.
