On the evening of July 26th, several domestic media outlets including China Times News reported that Zheng Shumin, a senior media figure in Taiwan, former chairman of Taiwan CTV, and former chairman of the Cultural and Architectural Association, fell at her home in Washington, USA in the early hours of July 26th, injuring her head and losing any signs of life despite emergency treatment. She passed away at the age of 78.
On the 26th, many media outlets on the island posted condolences on social media, calling Zheng a legendary figure in Taiwan's political and media circles. "The former Zhu has turned into smoke and clouds, and I wish Ms. Zheng Shumin a good journey!"
Zheng Shumin, who is currently 78 years old, has served as a journalist for Taiwan's Huashi TV, publisher and editor in chief of Times Magazine, deputy editor in chief of China Times, chairman of the Cultural and Architectural Committee, and chairman of CTV. After leaving CTV in 2004, she lived a low-key life and has settled in the United States in recent years.
According to a report from China Times News Network, in the 1990s, the Taiwan authorities sent Su Zhicheng and Zheng Shumin to contact the President of the Mainland China Association for Relations with the Seas, Wang Daohan, and relevant departments in Hong Kong under the mediation of Nan Huaijin, which facilitated the "Wang Gu talks" in the future and established a system of cross-strait exchanges between the Association for Relations with the Seas and the Sea Foundation.
Zheng Shumin was once asked what to do in Hong Kong? She always says "go buy clothes" in a glamorous way.
During her stay in the United States, Zheng Shumin studied yoga and also obtained a professional teaching license and started classes. Recently, she woke up in the middle of the night, fell in the bathroom at home, and went back to bed to take a nap. Her daughter found out that her mother had not woken up for a long time and rushed to the hospital for treatment, only to realize that she was unconscious due to cerebral hemorrhage.
