The Beijing branch of the 2023 20th National Taiwan Federation Youth 1000 Summer Camp opened in the National Swimming Center "Water Cube" in Beijing on July 25, with nearly 30 young Taiwanese from the United States, Brazil, Thailand and other places participating in it to experience the Olympic culture.
On the same day, Ren Wei, the Minister of the Liaison Department of the National Taiwan Federation, announced the opening of this summer camp. Taiwanese youth who participated in the summer camp visited the "Water Cube" themed exhibition, the swimming competition hall of the 2008 Olympic Games, and went to the "Eternal Embracing the Chinese Dream - Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Compatriots Building Beijing Olympic Venues Commemorative Exhibition" exhibition hall to experience the cohesion and centripetal force of Chinese people at home and abroad.
Visiting the Water Cube, Olympic elements are everywhere. The mascot of the 2008 Olympic Games "Fuwa" and the mascot of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games "Bing Dwen Dwen" aroused the interest of campers, who took group photos with "Fuwa" and "Bing Dwen Dwen" dolls, leaving unforgettable memories.
The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics will transform the "Water Cube" into an "Ice Cube". To experience the charm of ice and snow sports, campers also went to the "Water Cube" ice sports center to experience curling competition. Although curling does not involve intense physical collisions, the competition between the two teams is equally thrilling. The young Taiwanese compatriots present couldn't conceal their love for this sport, exclaiming that "the feeling of exerting force is particularly good" and "it's unforgettable".
In addition to experiencing Olympic culture, the campers also had a Hanfu experience. Taiwanese youth Li Fengnian comes from Brazil and is visiting the mainland with his three sisters for exchange and exchange. "My father encouraged us to come to our motherland and take a look. The whole family was neat and happy. When we came to the mainland, what I was most looking forward to was the trip to the Great Wall. I also really wanted to take a look at the cities and countryside in the mainland," he said.
This summer camp event is hosted by the All China Taiwan Federation and organized by the Beijing Municipal Taiwan Federation, Anhui Provincial Taiwan Federation, and Beijing Overseas Friendship Association.
According to the Beijing Federation of Taiwan Affairs, this summer camp is themed "Appreciating the Beijing flavor, Emblem, and Understanding the Deep Bloodline" and will be held in Beijing and Anhui. Through on-site visits, exchanges, sharing, and interactive experiences, overseas Taiwanese youth will experience the development achievements of the mainland in areas such as technological innovation, urban governance, and beautiful rural construction. They will further understand the long-standing history of the Chinese nation and appreciate the bone and flesh friendship that has been passed down from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
