Overseas Chinese youth strive to create the future, under the wave of openness
From overseas Chinese businessmen who were the first to return to China for investment and business in the early stages of reform and opening up, to a large number of returning entrepreneurs who have emerged in the field of scientific and technological innovation in the new era, the power of overseas Chinese has always been indispensable in China's development, from "leaving" to "returning". Looking towards the future, how can overseas Chinese youth play a supportive role in China's high-quality development?
Recently, the China World Innovation and Entrepreneurship Conference for the New Generation of Overseas Chinese was held in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, attracting more than 650 people from around the world, including young entrepreneurial elites from the overseas Chinese community, academicians and experts at home and abroad, and representatives of overseas Chinese. This conference not only showcases the charm of overseas Chinese elites and the sincerity of overseas Chinese communities in serving overseas Chinese, but also becomes a window for overseas Chinese to see the world.
The relay baton has been passed down from generation to generation
In the past, the older generation of overseas Chinese took root in the catering industry, handicrafts, small commodity trade and other fields overseas, making significant contributions to the development and growth of domestic overseas Chinese enterprises. Now, the relay baton has reached the hands of a new generation of overseas Chinese youth.
Li Guixiong, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Thailand and Executive Director of various industry association associations, as well as Chairman of Thailand Global Group, deeply felt the vibrant vitality of the Yangtze River Delta region after participating in this event. "At present, more and more young people from overseas Chinese are returning to China to start their own businesses. I plan to encourage more young people from overseas Chinese to participate in the new round of national construction, especially in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship. I believe that youth is the greatest driving force for the future development of the country," said Li Guixiong.
"Compared with the older generation of overseas Chinese, the youth in the overseas Chinese community tend to have a relatively good educational background and have a more long-term vision in innovation and entrepreneurship." Yu Shuhong, an academician of the CAS Member, and a professor and vice president of the School of Chemistry and Materials Science of the University of Science and Technology of China, believes that at present, all parts of the country share development opportunities, and the youth in the overseas Chinese community also usher in a broader space for innovation and entrepreneurship.
"Innovation and entrepreneurship are not simply about 'doing trade'. We hope that young people in the overseas Chinese community can take over the baton of development, pay more attention to national key industrial chains, and solve some 'bottleneck' problems through innovation breakthroughs." Yu Shuhong said.
Overseas Chinese Hometowns Open the Door to Opportunities
The venue of this event is Zhejiang, which is one of the key overseas Chinese towns in China. Nowadays, in Zhejiang, the enthusiasm of overseas Chinese businessmen for investment is constantly heating up. At present, more than 40000 overseas Chinese enterprises have invested and started businesses in Zhejiang, accounting for more than 60% of the total number of foreign-funded enterprises and total foreign investment in the province.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Zhejiang's in-depth implementation of the "88 Strategy". Currently, Zhejiang is vigorously promoting innovation deepening, reform tackling, and opening up. The three "Number One Projects" have opened up the "door of opportunity" for Zhejiang, and the stage for overseas Chinese youth to display their aspirations and expand their careers is becoming wider and wider.
The China World Overseas Chinese New Generation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, held in the early stage of this conference, focuses on the fields of digital economy, life and health, new energy, and carries out industrial policy docking meetings, investment and financing liaison meetings, and other activities. The aim is to build an innovation and entrepreneurship platform for overseas Chinese and young people in the overseas community, gather their intelligence, stimulate innovation vitality, and assist their development.
The "Foldable Ultra thin Flexible Glass Production and Processing" project from Qiantang District, Hangzhou City won first place in this competition. According to Han Qi, the person in charge of the enterprise to which the project belongs, in the past three years of the company's establishment, local government departments have provided a lot of support, such as recommending investment institutions and liaising with foreign experts, allowing the enterprise to develop with peace of mind.
"Nowadays, there are many similar innovation and entrepreneurship competitions in Zhejiang, providing a stage and opportunity for young people in the overseas Chinese community to innovate and start businesses." Han Qi said, "This time I came to Wenzhou, I felt the local enthusiasm for young people in the overseas Chinese community. Next, I hope that enterprise projects can also be launched in Wenzhou, serving the faster development of the local private economy."
"Two way Journey" and Win Tomorrow Together
At present, in the new journey of promoting a higher level of opening up to the outside world, young people from the overseas Chinese community are actively playing a role in traveling in both directions with their hometown of overseas Chinese, and working together for a better future.
As the Vice President of the Biomedical Industry Park Branch of the European and American Alumni Association, Founder of Suzhou Xueji Biotechnology Co., Ltd., and Associate Professor of the Teaching Track of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhu Fangfang, a young overseas Chinese, chose to return to China many years ago to develop and devote herself to the cell therapy industry. She admitted that as her understanding of her motherland deepened, her dream of returning to China to start a business became even more firm. "On the one hand, I want to return to China to support the development of China's cell therapy industry. On the other hand, the atmosphere of technology entrepreneurship in China is becoming increasingly strong, and a good business environment can help enterprises grow rapidly and stay at the forefront of professional fields." said Zhu Fangfang.
In order to achieve cross regional collaborative innovation, the "Yangtze River Delta" New Generation of Overseas Chinese Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance has emerged. The alliance is jointly established by the Shanghai Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, Jiangsu Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, Zhejiang Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, and Anhui Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. In the future, it will actively integrate resources and build a platform for youth exchange, cooperation, and development in the overseas Chinese community.
Overseas Chinese youth are not only participants in China's development, but also storytellers of Chinese stories. Currently, more and more young people in the overseas Chinese community are committed to telling the story of China well and showcasing China's image to the world. In recent years, the German Federation of Overseas Chinese Youth has continuously carried out cultural activities such as cultural gatherings and music festivals to promote cultural exchanges between China and Germany. "This year, we plan to hold the 10th anniversary concert of the 'the Belt and Road' in some cities of Germany and China, invite well-known musicians from both countries to jointly perform Chinese and Western classical music repertoire, promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the field of culture and art, and show the achievements and prospects of the 'the Belt and Road' initiative to the world," said Wang Zhenyu, president of the Youth Federation of the German Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese.
