The Chinese Embassy in Russia has made representations to the Russian side regarding the obstruction of Chinese citizens entering Russia
On July 29th, five Chinese citizens who were planning to enter Russia by car through the Karauzek Port in Astrakhan Oblast, Kazakhstan, encountered obstacles and their tourist visas were cancelled and their entry was refused. After receiving a call for help, the consular staff of the Chinese Embassy in Russia thoroughly understood the cause of the incident, calmed the emotions of the parties involved, repeatedly confirmed the involved ports, and promptly inquired with the Russian side about the situation. According to the parties' requests for help, the Russian side provided convenience for the parties to apply for visas and enter the country again.
On August 2nd, the embassy further learned from the video uploaded by the parties that Russian border guards conducted a 4-hour repeated review of them. According to the deployment of the embassy leadership, the relevant departments of the embassy met with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Border Protection Agency, the Federal Security Agency, and other departments to make negotiations, clearly pointing out that the barbaric and excessive law enforcement behavior of the Russian side in this incident seriously harms the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens, is inconsistent with the current friendly relationship between China and Russia, and is inconsistent with the increasingly close trend of personnel friendly exchanges between the two countries. They demanded that the Russian side immediately investigate the cause of the incident, take active measures, and make every effort to eliminate the negative impact, and ensure that similar incidents will not occur again in the future, fully respecting and protecting the dignity and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens.
The Russian side stated that the above-mentioned incident is a single event, and welcomes Chinese citizens to visit Russia without any discriminatory policies or behaviors towards Chinese citizens. After preliminary verification, the reason for the refusal of entry is that the destination of the relevant Chinese citizen visa application does not match the actual destination, which violates relevant Russian laws and regulations. The Chinese Embassy in Russia has requested the Russian side to further investigate the excessive law enforcement behavior of border inspectors and provide a satisfactory response to the Chinese side.
The Chinese Embassy in Russia also reminds our compatriots that if they encounter any situations that harm the dignity and legitimate rights and interests of our citizens during tourism, business, or study in Russia, please contact the Chinese Embassy and Consulate in Russia in a timely manner. The Chinese Embassy and Consulate in Russia will fully fulfill their consular duties and safeguard the safety and legitimate rights and interests of our citizens.
