Only shared with specific allies, the United States has collected detailed intelligence on the Wagner Rebellion beforehand. Wagner | Intelligence | United States
Sources have revealed that even before the Russian private military group Wagner launched a rebellion on June 24th, US intelligence officials had collected extremely detailed and accurate information about Wagner's rebellion plan, including where Wagner planned to launch the rebellion and how to proceed.
On June 26th, CNN reported that unnamed insiders stated that the intelligence obtained by the United States was strictly controlled and only shared with specific allies, including senior British officials, rather than at the broader NATO level.
Sources say it was unclear when Prigoren would launch a rebellion, but after the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on June 10th that all private military companies, including Wagner, would be forced to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense starting in July and be largely absorbed by the ministry, Prigoren seemed to have decided to continue his rebellion plan.
CNN reported that the level of confidentiality of these intelligence in the United States is quite high, to the extent that only the highest level government officials and members of the Congressional Gang of Eight who have access to the most sensitive intelligence affairs can obtain the intelligence within the United States.
Sources have revealed that due to the confidentiality of the aforementioned intelligence, some senior officials from European countries and even the US government were caught off guard by Prigoren's rebellion, and the speed at which Wagner's army entered Rostov on the Don River and headed towards Moscow on the morning of the 24th also caught them off guard.
According to reports, some NATO officials are frustrated that they have not been shared with relevant intelligence. But sources explained that sharing with NATO officials could pose risks, exposing extremely sensitive intelligence sources and methods of obtaining them. Sources have stated that Ukrainian officials were not informed of this intelligence in advance, mainly due to concerns that dialogue between US and Ukrainian officials may be intercepted by Russia.
