On the day of the official opening of Chengdu Dayun Village, the village welcomed 20 special young guests.
They were volunteers who had fully participated in the preparation of volunteer services for the Chengdu Universiade in the early stage, but were unable to provide volunteer services for this year's Universiade due to the postponement of the competition schedule. Some people have just graduated and are now working, while others have changed their identities to serve and support the Universiade in other ways.
On this day, they dressed in volunteer clothing and came to Dayun Village under the arrangement of the Human Resources Department of the Chengdu Universiade Executive Committee. Accompanied by the "Little Green Peppers" who have officially started volunteer service this year, they visited the Welcome Center, Main Registration Center, Science and Technology Service Workstation, and finally arrived at the Volunteer Home in Dayun Village to exchange their previous insights on volunteer service preparation as "Little Green Pepper" senior brothers and sisters.
"I have made many friends here and said goodbye to many of them," said Sun Zhenheng, the service assistant of the basketball venue center delegation at this year's Universiade and a student from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. Over the past three years, the Universiade has permeated every aspect of his life, and he holds a pure and profound emotion towards the people and things related to it: "I want to pass on the spirit of my friends and also hope to bring the sports spirit of the Universiade into our lives."
Sun Jiankai, a volunteer who participated in the volunteer service for the 2022 Universiade and from Southwest Jiaotong University, came to Chengdu to study for postgraduate studies in 2021. "Whenever I had the opportunity, I volunteered for the Universiade. At that time, I felt very lucky to have the opportunity to witness such a world event here."
He specially brought the dark file package he received during the volunteer training. He jokingly referred to himself as "Old Green Pepper" and mentioned that as soon as he entered the village to participate in the experience activity of the Universiade, he felt the enthusiasm of volunteers. "This heartfelt enthusiasm will definitely make college students from all over the world feel China's welcome to them."
Sun Jiankai recalled that a few days ago, during the rehearsal for the opening ceremony of the Universiade, he witnessed volunteers overcoming high temperatures together, supporting and helping each other. "We are fortunate to have such a big family, and we may encounter many difficulties and challenges, but being able to communicate and understand each other is our greatest 'capital'."
Due to their joint participation in volunteer services, these young people from all over the world have also developed strong emotional connections. The youngest volunteer to participate in this event is 18-year-old Zhou Ruitian from Sichuan Foreign Studies University. This year, as a volunteer member of the delegation, he participated in the volunteer service for the Universiade and felt the youth and vitality of college students around the world.
Another connection also touched him deeply: "Whether before or now, our volunteer senior brothers and sisters have put in a lot of effort. I want to take this baton and do a good job in volunteer service for the Universiade. We are tolerant and mutually supportive, just like a big family."
In this family of volunteers for the Universiade, they have found a way to connect with young people around the world, and with each other's help, they have also found their own value coordinates here. In less than a week, the curtain of the Chengdu Universiade will open, and the "little green peppers" are also ready to welcome visitors from all directions, welcoming a new chapter that belongs to Chengdu and also belongs to them.
