According to the Latin American News Agency on August 30, Blanco, the official in charge of trade affairs of the Bolivian government, said that Bolivia is striving to consolidate its position in the Chinese market and strive to become the largest producer and exporter of Chia seeds in the world.
Blanco said, "If we enter the Chinese market, with our production capacity, we are confident that Bolivia will become the largest producer and exporter of chia seeds."
Blanco added in an interview that if they can enter the Chinese market, Bolivian Chia seed producers will increase their production.
According to Bolivian Minister of Rural Development and Land Gonzalez, a delegation composed of Chinese customs technicians has recently arrived in Bolivia with the aim of visiting livestock farms in the Santa Cruz region of the country, as well as inspecting Chia seed cultivation and processing plants.
The report states that in 2022, Bolivia exported approximately 8204 tons of chia seeds, valued at 23 million US dollars.
Bolivian Chia seeds are mainly sold to Mexico, with an export volume of 2908 tons, bringing in $8 million in revenue.
At present, Bolivia's annual production of Chia seeds is 15000 tons, making it the second largest producer of Chia seeds in the world.
