Officials from the Western Community: Not accepted. Niger's coup soldiers claim to complete transitional politics within 3 years
On August 20th local time, Abdul Fatou Moussa, the Political Affairs, Peace and Security Commissioner of the Western Community, stated in a media interview that the Community does not accept the three-year transitional plan proposed by the military leaders of the Niger coup, describing this proposal as a "smokescreen" for dialogue and diplomacy.
On the evening of August 19th, Chiani, the leader of the Niger coup military and chairman of the National Committee for the Defense of the Motherland, announced the establishment of an inclusive national dialogue committee, proposing to complete the political transition in no more than three years. At that time, the coup military will return power to the elected civilian government. On the same day, a delegation from the Western Community visited Niger. The delegation met with Chiani and held a working meeting with members of the Niger military government. However, the Western Community has not yet disclosed the results of the negotiations during this visit.
