Official US data: 385 people still missing due to wildfires in Hawaii
According to data released by official US agencies on the 1st, 385 people are still missing due to wildfires on Maui Island in Hawaii.
The list of missing persons released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Maui County Police Department has 385 people, which is only 3 fewer than the first list released on August 24th.
These two institutions explained in a press release that after the first list of missing persons was released, 245 of them were confirmed to be safe and sound and removed from the list. However, new missing persons were added based on multiple reports, so the total number of missing persons did not significantly decrease.
Hawaii Governor Josh Green previously stated that he believes the number of missing persons will drop to below 100.
The Maui wildfire, which began on August 8th, is the deadliest wildfire in over a century in the United States. At present, the authorities have ended the search in the burning area and confirmed that at least 115 people have been killed.
