On July 11th, multiple netizens posted videos on social media claiming that the stone protective fence of Yixun River Wetland Park in Longhua County, Chengde, Hebei Province was blown down by strong winds. In response to this, the staff of Longhua County Water Affairs Bureau said that the collapsed stone barriers were built in 2009 and 2011 respectively, and in a short period of time, the storm led to the collapse of the barriers.
The video shows that the stone protective fence on the riverbank collapsed in patches on the ground. It was visually observed that the collapsed protective fence exceeded a hundred meters, and some protective fences had already broken. Some netizens questioned the quality of the fence project. Another video shows that some trees near the collapsed protective fence have been uprooted, while others have broken their waists.
"The thick trees at the mouth of the bowl were blown off by the strong wind." Jimu News reporters learned from the Longhua County government that the collapsed protective fence is being cleaned up, and the specific situation is under the management of the Water Bureau.
The relevant person in charge of the Water Affairs Bureau of Longhua County stated that at around 4 pm on the 11th, there was sudden heavy rain and strong winds in Longhua County. The extremely bad weather caused the collapse of the 387 meter stone protective fence on the left bank of the third rubber dam constructed in 2009 and the 159 meter stone protective fence on the left bank of the fifth rubber dam constructed in 2011. In addition, trees aged 20-30 years were also broken by the waist and some were uprooted. At around 5 pm on the same day, the staff arrived to inspect the situation. In order to prevent accidents caused by citizens exercising by the river, they set up a warning line on site, and the next step will be to clean and repair the collapsed protective fence.
Regarding the doubts raised by netizens, the above-mentioned person in charge claimed that the collapse of the protective fence was caused by natural disasters. Normally, the staff of the Zhenba Service Center of the Water Bureau will inspect the protective fence and repair any problems found. "We have also contacted the meteorological bureau, and the staff of the bureau have determined that the wind speed is above level ten. Otherwise, the protective fence will not be knocked down and the trees will not be uprooted," the person in charge said.
