The statement stated that improving the level of diplomatic relations between the two countries has been implemented in accordance with the decisions of the two presidents. This measure aims to normalize the relationship between the two countries and reflects the common will of the people of Turkey and Egypt to develop bilateral relations.
After former Egyptian President Morsi stepped down in 2013, relations between Egypt and Türkiye deteriorated, and the two countries subsequently downgraded their diplomatic relations. In addition, there are also conflicts between the two sides regarding the Libyan issue and the development of oil and gas resources in the Eastern Mediterranean. From 2021, Türkiye and Egypt began consultations with high-level diplomats. Since the beginning of this year, the relationship between the two countries has shown a trend of recovery, with increased interaction between the two sides. The foreign ministers of the two countries will conduct mutual visits and discuss specific steps for restoring bilateral relations.
