Over the course of 10 days, 6500 athletes from 113 countries and regions around the world have competed fiercely in 18 major events and 269 minor events on the Chengdu Universiade field. While youthful passion shines on the sports arena, friendship and dreams are also imprinted on this world focused youth stage.
"I came here with a great dream come true, and I am qualified to participate, which makes me very happy." At this year's Universiade, German track and field athlete Jens successfully won the gold medal in the men's 3000m steeplechase, and the scene of not forgetting to clap hands with the contestants one by one was captured and widely spread by the world's media. When asked by reporters if he had fulfilled his dream of participating in the Universiade, he recalled the details of his participation in the competition, especially the enthusiasm of the on-site audience during the final, which inspired him greatly. "You may have seen the scene of my sprint, and I put my hand on my head. I realized that I was indeed here to compete and achieve success. This dream has come true," he said excitedly. "I think I may need a few more days to digest this process when I get home. It is indeed a dream come true for me."
Brazilian swimmer Fernanda, who won a bronze medal in the men's and women's mixed 4x100m freestyle relay swimming event at the Chengdu Universiade, is very happy to come to China to participate in the event. For her, the Chengdu Universiade trip is a very unique experience. "I feel that coming here is already a dream come true. I have never had a similar experience before, and we have received a lot of support. These have allowed us to perform well, and it is indeed a dream come true, not just the results themselves."
As the gold medalist of the women's 3000m steeplechase at this year's Universiade, Australian track and field athlete Kara helped many athletes walk off the track after the race, making countless viewers feel the spirit of sports and the power of friendship. "The 3000 meter obstacle race is a very challenging competition because you have to overcome many obstacles. Many people ended up lying on the ground because we did give our all, which is a very good feeling. This is a manifestation of sportsmanship, and we can support each other and support each other after the competition." Kara said, "Competitors from all over the world have similar thoughts. We are competitors, but after the competition, everyone respects each other very much."
Not just medals! As a stage for global youth exchange and communication, the Chengdu Universiade is witnessing the friendship and dreams of young people of different skin colors and languages.
