North Korea harshly warns the US and South Korea of the "Nuclear Consultation Group" meeting and the US strategic nuclear submarine entry strategy into South Korea | US | Consultation
According to a report by the Korean Central News Agency on the 20th, North Korea's Defense Minister, Chun Man, issued a statement condemning the "Nuclear Consultation Group" meeting held by the United States and South Korea on the 18th, and emphasizing that the United States has deployed strategic nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula for the first time in more than 40 years when a strategic nuclear submarine is anchored in Busan Port, posing the "most blatant and direct" nuclear threat to North Korea.
The statement emphasizes that among the world's nuclear armed countries, only the United States has publicly established the use of nuclear weapons targeting specific countries as a policy. Due to military recklessness by the United States and its followers, the military security situation on the Korean Peninsula has undergone fundamental changes.
Qiang Chunnan warned the US, "The enhanced visibility of strategic asset deployment, including strategic nuclear submarines, may comply with the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons outlined in North Korea's nuclear force policy."
The statement states that the North Korean armed forces will responsibly safeguard national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and fundamental interests, and prevent nuclear war from occurring on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia.
According to a previous report by Yonhap News Agency, Kurt Campbell, the Coordinator for Indo Pacific Affairs of the US National Security Council, stated during his visit to South Korea on the 18th that a US strategic nuclear submarine is docked at Busan Port. On the 19th, South Korean President Yoon Seok yeol boarded the US Navy's strategic nuclear submarine Kentucky anchored in Busan Port and inspected its interior.
On April 26th this year, US President Biden held talks with Yoon Seok yeol at the White House. Both sides agree to upgrade the "extended deterrence" provided by the United States to South Korea, continue to strengthen trilateral cooperation between South Korea, the United States, and Japan, and strengthen cooperation in supply chains, key technologies, and other areas. The Washington Declaration adopted by both sides stipulates that the United States provides a "nuclear umbrella" to South Korea, agrees to expand consultations on the Korean US nuclear crisis, establish a "nuclear consultation group" mechanism, add military training and simulation exercises between South Korea and the United States, increase the deployment of US strategic assets around the Korean Peninsula, including the deployment of strategic nuclear submarines.
