Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Dennis Moncada recently submitted a claim letter signed by Nigerian President Ortega to UN Secretary General Guterres, demanding that the United States pay over $12 billion in compensation to comply with the International Court of Justice's ruling in the 1980s regarding the United States providing funding for the Nicaraguan Civil War. The letter pointed out that after 37 years, the United States has not yet paid off this "historical debt".
Seizing natural resources, carrying out economic plunder, and planning to overthrow political power... Since the proposal of "Monroe Doctrine" for 200 years, the United States has adhered to hegemonism, manipulated the rhetoric of "democracy and freedom", prioritized its own interests, and regarded Latin America as a "backyard" and acted recklessly, causing deep suffering to Latin American countries and people. Analysts point out that currently, the will of Latin American countries to unite and fight against hegemony is becoming increasingly strong, and using dialogue and multilateralism to confront US hegemonic actions and defend regional integration has become a choice for more and more Latin American countries.

Refusal to pay compensation shows domineering behavior
In 1979, the People's Armed Forces led by the Sandinista National Liberation Front overthrew the pro American Somocha family, which had ruled Nicaragua for more than 40 years under dictatorship. In order to continue controlling the country, the US government began to fund anti-government forces within Nepal, not only training soldiers and providing weapons, but also encouraging them to lay mines in important ports, resulting in the damage of multiple foreign merchant ships. In addition, the United States also incited anti-government forces in Nepal to launch a civil war, causing the country to be deeply mired in war and become one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere.
In 1984, the Nigerian government sued the United States government to the International Court of Justice, demanding compensation for the losses caused by years of interference in Nigerian internal affairs. In 1986, the International Court of Justice ruled that the actions of the United States violated United Nations conventions and ordered it to pay compensation exceeding $12 billion to Nicaragua. However, in multiple votes held by the United Nations Security Council on this matter, the United States has repeatedly used its veto power, resulting in the inability to secure compensation.

In 1990, pro American presidential candidate Bioletta Chamorro defeated current President Ortega in the election and later withdrew his claim for compensation from the United States.
37 years later, Ortega once again demanded this compensation from the United States. In his letter to Guterres, he stated that this is not an obligation that needs to be established or consulted with judicial authorities, but rather an obligation that has already been clearly stated in the final decision of the highest international judicial body, and that the United States has not borne the "social cost" of its illegal actions.
Interference branding marks of pain
Intervention in Nicaragua's internal affairs is only the tip of the iceberg where the United States adheres to Monroe Doctrine and hegemonism harms Latin America. Over the past 200 years, the United States has intervened militarily in Latin America more than 30 times, and has used various means such as "monetary politics" to secretly or indirectly intervene in the affairs of Latin American countries. Latin American countries, regarded as their "backyard", have lost their land, fallen into turmoil, and become impoverished under various means of devastation by the United States.
In 1915, there was unrest in Haiti, and the United States invaded and occupied Haiti under the pretext of "protecting overseas Chinese". It was not until 1934 that they withdrew. During this period, American soldiers who believed in white supremacy massacred a large number of black residents. Until today, Haiti remains one of the least developed countries in the world.
In the early 1950s, the then president of Guatemala, Hakovo Abens Gusman, carried out land reform and allocated the idle land of the United Fruit Company with American capital to landless farmers. United Fruit Company lobbied the US government to support Castillo Armas in launching a coup and overthrowing the Abens government.
In December 1989, the US government launched a military operation against Panama, a Central American country, under the pretext of "protecting expatriates", resulting in the death of nearly 500 Panamanians. In 2018, the Inter American Commission on Human Rights ruled that the actions of the United States violated the Declaration of Rights and Duties of Americans and demanded compensation from the United States for its aggressive actions against Panama, but the United States has not responded.
In addition, the US occupation of nearly 2.3 million square kilometers of land in Mexico through the Mexican American War to support the pro American regime's invasion of Grenada... The crimes of US intervention and suppression of Latin American countries are countless. Until today, the United States is still oppressing Latin American countries through various means. "Too far from heaven, too close to America" still envelops this ancient land like a curse.

Strong will to unite and fight against hegemony
From political struggle to armed resistance, the Latin American people have never stopped resisting American interference. With the acceleration of regional integration, the will of Latin American countries to unite and resist US hegemony is becoming stronger.
At the Latin American Community Summit held in January this year, leaders from multiple Latin American countries called for an end to the economic and financial blockade against Cuba, the establishment of a regional integration mechanism that can protect the common interests of the people and respect diversity, and the opposition to foreign interference and hegemony. In May this year, the South American leaders' meeting was held in Brazil. Brazilian President Lula proposed multiple integration initiatives during the meeting, including establishing a regional common currency to reduce dependence on the US dollar, and restarting the construction of the South American Union of Nations. The Brasilia Consensus reached at the meeting proposed the establishment of an effective South American Free Trade Area, fully demonstrating the determination of Latin American countries to build regional integration.
Former Bolivian Foreign Minister Fernando Vanacuni pointed out that the "Monroe Doctrine" and its derivative US policy towards Latin America are essentially turning the Americas into the "American America.". The United States has inherited the history of European powers invading territories, slaughtering civilians, and plundering wealth in Latin America, and has carried it forward. "Nicaragua's demand for compensation from the United States has raised a collective voice in Latin America. Latin American countries should unite and cooperate to counter the United States' unipolar hegemony through integration mechanisms."
