New Progress in the Construction of Chongming Line in Rail Transit
Recently, it was reported from the construction site of the Shanghai Rail Transit Chongming Line Beigang on Changxing Island that the "Shenchong" super large shield tunneling, which departed from Changxing Island and advanced towards Chongming Island, has successfully advanced and exceeded the 1000 meter milestone. The "Shentong" super large shield tunneling, which had previously departed from Changxing Island and advanced towards Pudong, completed kilometer distance excavation at the end of May this year. Currently, both shield tunneling machines are in the normal construction stage, continuously advancing towards the north-south direction at an average speed of 16-20 meters per day.
The Chongming Line cross the Yangtze River twice, with the Nangang section about 7.7 kilometers long and the Beigang section about 9 kilometers long. Both face multiple challenges in complex working conditions such as long-distance excavation, tunnel burial depth, crossing sandy soil layers and biogas layers, and have become key engineering control points for the entire line. With the continuous increase of excavation distance, material transportation distance, ventilation and air exchange inside the tunnel, and the increasingly complex permeable soil environment have all become huge difficulties in shield tunneling construction.
To ensure the smooth progress of the two super large shield tunnels, the project team integrates all production factors such as shield wear monitoring system, tunnel traffic control system, toxic and harmful gas monitoring and warning, and ventilation system through an advanced "Digital Intelligent Tunnel" intelligent control platform. In terms of safety and quality control, it ensures the safe and efficient normal operation of tunnel construction, thereby achieving intelligent control and traceability closed-loop management throughout the entire lifecycle. At the same time, through the intelligent control platform, reasonable parameter ranges are set, and AI monitoring combined with manual methods are used to achieve automated real-time data collection of tunnel forming quality, key propulsion parameters, and shield tunneling posture.
The Chongming Line project has a total length of about 43 kilometers, and its cross river tunnel is currently the longest distance rail transit project crossing the Yangtze River in China. The Chongming Line not only fills the rail transit gap between Chongming District and Shanghai's land area, but also meets the requirements of Shanghai's overall urban planning, enhances the transportation service function and urban spatial organization efficiency of new towns, promotes the development of important functional areas in Pudong New Area, and promotes the linkage development between Chongming and the main urban area.
