New! New Species Added to Mount Wuyi National Park Nanjing Institute of Environmental Sciences | Insects | National
CCTV news: With the continuous deepening of the background investigation of biological resources, the scientific research team has also made significant progress in Mount Wuyi National Park. According to today's latest release, five new insect species have been added to Mount Wuyi National Park.
The five new species announced this time are five new species of insects of the genus Hymenopterus, which are respectively Hymenopterus brevicornus, Hymenopterus maculata, Hymenopterus jiuquxi, Hymenopterus quadratus and Hymenopterus Mount Wuyi.

Dr. Ma Fangzhou from the Nanjing Institute of Environmental Science, Ministry of Ecology and Environment: Insects of the Yellow Hidden Shoulder Dancing Fly class generally have a relatively small body size, with adult body lengths ranging from 1.8mm to 2.8mm. The abdominal end of males is relatively thick, while females are relatively pointed. Their larvae live under ground cover, rocks, or soil, while adults mostly live on plant surfaces and above ground. They mainly prey on important economic or health pests such as psyllids and aphids.
It is reported that over the past year, researchers have collected a large number of insect samples at the observation points of Mount Wuyi National Park, Xiaonandingkeng and Jiuqu Brook, observed the morphological characteristics of adult insect samples under stereomicroscope and microscope, and identified them as new species by means of morphological taxonomy. Relevant achievements were published in the authoritative journal of insect taxonomy in March this year.

Dr. Ma Fangzhou from the Nanjing Institute of Environmental Science, Ministry of Ecology and Environment: The five new species we have discovered this time play an important role in clarifying the resources of the yellow soldier fly genus. At the same time, it is of great significance in the comprehensive management of harmful organisms through biological control, including the study of indicator organisms for biodiversity and environmental assessment.
It is understood that since the pilot project of Mount Wuyi National Park system in 2016, 24 new species have been found so far, greatly enriching the species record of Mount Wuyi.
