In the first half of 2023, the number of online shopping users in China reached 884 million, an increase of 38.8 million compared to December 2022, accounting for 82.0% of the total number of netizens. In the first half of the year, the national online retail sales reached 7.16 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.1%. Among them, the online retail sales of physical goods reached 6.06 trillion yuan, an increase of 10.8%, accounting for 26.6% of the total retail sales of consumer goods in society. Online shopping consumption continues to play a positive role in supporting consumption growth.
Cross border e-commerce drives accelerated growth of new foreign trade drivers
In the first half of this year, China's cross-border e-commerce import and export volume reached 1.1 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16%, achieving double-digit rapid growth. The proportion of cross-border e-commerce goods import and export to foreign trade has increased from less than 1% five years ago to about 5%. Cross border e-commerce has become an important new force in foreign trade, and it has become an important way for many foreign trade enterprises to obtain orders, effectively helping to stabilize the scale and optimize the structure of China's foreign trade.
China has established over 1500 cross-border e-commerce overseas warehouses, covering an area of over 19 million square meters. Nearly 90% of overseas warehouses have carried out information and intelligent construction. Nowadays, China has approved the establishment of 165 cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones, covering 31 provinces across the country. Cross border e-commerce has become a new highlight of China's foreign economic and trade cooperation. In addition, China has also launched a series of support measures in taxation, customs clearance, and foreign exchange settlement, providing assistance for the rapid development of new formats such as cross-border e-commerce and overseas warehouses through innovative regulatory methods and support policies.
