International Online Report: The 31st Summer Universiade will be held in Chengdu on the 28th. Nepal has sent a total of 18 young athletes to participate in this Universiade, including Taekwondo, martial arts, fencing, table tennis, badminton, shooting, and athletics. In this team, many athletes have not only participated in regional and other international competitions, but also visited China multiple times for training, exchange, and competition.
Nilma and Bijaya are both pride in the Nepalese martial arts community. 23-year-old girl Nilma once won the first gold medal for the Nepalese team at the 12th South Asian Games, and she once again won the gold medal in the women's martial arts event at the 13th South Asian Games. Nilma stated that the Universiade is a sports event for young people, providing a good opportunity for young athletes around the world to communicate with each other. At the same time, this Universiade was also a practical training for her to prepare for the September Asian Games this year.
Nilma: "The Universiade is a competition that focuses on young people, and it is a great opportunity for teenagers. Young people from different cultures and languages come together to communicate and share, which can also bring us closer. For preparing for the Asian Games, this Universiade is a good opportunity. During the competition, we can discover shortcomings, identify weaknesses, understand what we need to do in the future, and improve our abilities. Although the competition is full of uncertainty, I will do my best."
At the age of 22, Bijaya began to learn martial arts under the influence of her parents at the age of 2 and won a gold medal in the men's martial arts event at the 13th South Asian Games. He looks forward to the Chengdu Universiade providing a new platform and opportunities for young Nepalese athletes. This trip to Chengdu is also Bijaya's fifth time visiting China. He can say a few simple polite Chinese phrases and hopes to use this competition opportunity to learn more Chinese.
Bijaya said, "The Universiade is a great platform for Nepalese university students to exercise themselves in practical situations. I am currently learning Chinese, which is convenient for communication in martial arts, so it is necessary to learn Chinese. Currently, my Chinese proficiency is very limited, and I hope to learn more Chinese. I will do my best."
Nepalese sports officials and relatives and friends of athletes are also full of expectations for the Chengdu Universiade, hoping that these young people can use the event to showcase the charm of Nepalese youth to the world, while also understanding and getting to know China, and bringing back information on China's development. Tamang, President of the Nepal Martial Arts Association, said, "Our athletes participating in the Chengdu Universiade will showcase the charm of Nepalese martial arts athletes to the world. This sport, which originated in China, is very popular in Nepal. Now our athletes will showcase their training results on the Universiade field. They are very excited and look forward to meeting more excellent coaches and athlete friends in China."
