On July 25th, the Ecuadorian Prosecutor General's Office stated that a recent riot in a prison in the country has resulted in 31 deaths. The press secretary of the Presidential Office of Ecuador announced on the same day that, according to the decree signed by President Lasso, the national prison system in Ecuador has entered a 60 day state of emergency to combat organized crime and restore prison order.
The day before, in response to the recent frequent violent incidents and prison riots in many areas, Ecuadorian President Lasso signed a decree declaring a 60 day state of emergency in two provinces in central and western Ecuador, as well as other parts of the country.
On the 25th, the press secretary of the Presidential Office of Ecuador announced on social media that approximately 2700 police and armed forces personnel have entered the prison to maintain order and confiscated a large number of prohibited items such as firearms, knives, and explosives. The current situation is basically under control.
According to the Presidential Press Secretariat, the riot has also spread to prisons in other parts of Ecuador.

The Ecuadorian National Prison Integrated Management Service stated that there have been recent riots in 5 prisons located in 5 different provinces, with a total of 96 prison guards taken hostage, but their lives are currently not in danger. On the 23rd, the mayor of the port city of Manta in Manawi Province was shot dead, with one person killed and four injured.
Since April this year, there have been riots in multiple prisons in Guayaquil, resulting in the deaths of multiple prisoners and prison guards. The Eritrean government stated that the violent incidents are related to the competition for control among prisoners from different drug trafficking groups.
