On the late night of August 13th, several netizens in Donghai County posted a video claiming that there was an unknown gas leak in the area, and residents were urgently evacuated to other places for safety. In the relevant video, there are fire trucks and police cars on duty parked on the road.
The reporter noticed that the locations where netizens posted videos are mostly located in two residential areas, Dongcheng Meiyuan and Dongcheng Xinyuan, Jingchen Road, Donghai County. On the morning of the 14th, Mr. Wei, a resident of Dongcheng Meiyuan, told reporters that he was sleeping at the time of the incident, and the property management staff of the community shouted with horns to urge the residents to come downstairs and leave as soon as possible. He thought it was an earthquake at the time, so he quickly put on his clothes and rushed downstairs, walking in the opposite direction of Jingchen Road for about 500 meters before stopping. Mr. Wei said that at the time, someone said it was a hydrogen leak in the factory area across from the community.
A hotel staff member on the north side of Jingchen Road said that the store also urgently evacuated customers that night.
On the morning of the 14th, staff from the Donghai County Government Office responded to reporters that at around 9 pm on August 13th, a hydrogen transport vehicle in a company in Shiliu Street of the county leaked, causing a ground fire. The fire was extinguished that night and did not cause any casualties or environmental hazards. The evacuated population has now returned. Staff from the Emergency Management Bureau of Donghai County and the Shiliu Street Office all stated that the incident occurred at Baosheng Quartz Products Co., Ltd.
