NATO is preparing to defend Poland?, Polish Increase in Troops Wagner Group on the Polish White Border | Belarus | Poland
According to the report of Deutsche Presse-Agentur on July 21, the Polish government announced on July 21 that it planned to move more troops eastward to the border area with Belarus because of the concern about the existence of the Russian mercenary Wagner Group in neighboring Belarus.
According to the Polish news agency, the government representative has not yet provided a specific number of troops to be dispatched.
According to reports, a military base near Brest, Belarus is currently conducting exercises, which is only a few kilometers away from the Belarus border. Inside the base, Russian private armed Wagner group fighters are training Belarusian soldiers.
Zbignev Hoffman, Secretary of the Polish Government Security Council, said, "The joint exercise between the Belarusian army and the Wagner Group is undoubtedly a provocation." He said that the actions of Russia and Belarus were expected.
The report points out that Poland has a 418 kilometer border with Belarus, Russia's closest ally.
The Polish army has two brigades training in the eastern region. Another reason for the tense situation here is that refugees from global crisis hotspots are attempting to cross the border into Poland with the help of Belarusian authorities.
According to Reuters, German Defense Minister Pistorius said in Prague on July 21 that Germany and NATO are ready to support Poland in defending its eastern wing.
During a press conference with the Czech Defense Minister in Prague, Pistorius said, "Where Polish partners need support, they will receive it. They are NATO partners and reliable NATO allies, so we can confidently say that we are ready."
