My Embassy in Japan: No need for the "Asia Pacific version of NATO", NATO continues to intervene in Asia Pacific affairs countries | Asia Pacific | NATO
Spokesperson of the Embassy in Japan delivers a statement on the negative trend of NATO's eastward expansion into the Asia Pacific region
In recent times, NATO has continued to intervene in Asia Pacific affairs, stirring up confrontations between factions and arousing high vigilance among regional countries. At the recently concluded Nurvis Summit, NATO once again played up tension and created opposition on China related issues, which China is seriously concerned about and firmly opposes.
It should be emphasized that NATO's eastward expansion into the Asia Pacific region goes beyond the scope of collective self-defense allowed by the United Nations Charter, violates the provisions of the United Nations Charter on regional arrangements and the purpose of developing friendly international relations, and brings destructive factors to regional and even global security. NATO claims to be a regional organization, but goes beyond the geographical scope stipulated in its own treaty. NATO claims to be a defensive alliance, but encourages member states to continuously increase military spending and expand their power beyond borders. NATO claims to defend a "rule-based international order", but disregards international law and basic norms of international relations, interferes in the internal affairs of other countries, gets involved in multiple wars, sells security anxiety, and fears that the world will not be in chaos.
The long-term prosperity and stability of the Asia Pacific region rely on mutual respect, open cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation among regional countries, and proper resolution of differences. NATO represents a hegemonic thinking based on military alliances, pursuing one-sided absolute security, and external intervention and expansion. This goes against the trend of seeking peace, seeking development, and promoting cooperation in the era. Asia Pacific countries do not welcome "NATO Asia Pacific", and the Asia Pacific region does not need the "Asia Pacific version of NATO". We have noticed the recent interaction between NATO and Japan, and hope that Japan can learn from historical lessons, adhere to the path of peaceful development, and refrain from doing anything that undermines mutual trust between regional countries and undermines regional peace and stability.
