Multiple hotels have halved their prices, after the summer vacation ends
During this summer vacation, the topic of hotel price increases frequently sparked heated discussions.
A netizen joked on social media that they had already submitted the annual leave process, but after browsing around the hotels, they silently cancelled it
However, in recent days, several hotels have seen significant price reductions, some of which are almost halved.
After the summer vacation, several hotels saw their prices halved
The first hot topic to be discussed earlier was a Hanting hotel in Beijing. In early August, the lowest priced room type in the hotel was a regular king size room at 827 yuan per night, while the standard room with twin beds reached 1023 yuan per night.
The reporter found through an online platform that the price of a king sized room in the hotel has dropped to 424 yuan for the first weekend after summer vacation, almost halved. The price of a twin room has been reduced to 607 yuan, which is 60% of the previous price.
Similarly, the Home Selection Hotel near Qianmen Dashilan Commercial Street has also seen price reductions, with king and twin rooms priced at 545 yuan and 616 yuan respectively, a significant decrease from the previous price of over 1000 yuan.
Several home hotels near the Bund in Shanghai have also become more affordable in terms of prices. For example, the business big bed room of Home Inn on Jinling East Road is 349 yuan/night, while that of Home Inn in Chenghuang Temple is 317 yuan. For the hotels near the Bund and Yu Garden, the prices are already very favorable.
Apart from Beijing and Shanghai, the prices of economy hotels in Hangzhou have also entered a cooling off period. Previously, the price of a king size room at the Orange Crystal Wulin Plaza Yintai store, which the reporter had previously paid attention to, had dropped from 636 yuan to 440 yuan, almost returning to the price just adjusted after the epidemic prevention measures this year.
According to the hotel price calendar, this price will continue until the end of September and will peak again during the Mid Autumn Festival and National Day holiday.
Why are hotel prices particularly high this summer?
Why are hotels in popular cities, especially economy hotels, becoming increasingly expensive this summer?
"The previously accumulated tourism demand has been released during this summer, and the tourism and research markets are hot. Popular hotels have become scarce, and their prices will naturally rise due to supply shortages." Li Baiwen, a professor at the School of Tourism at Peking Union University, told reporters.
According to the Beijing Time client, as of July 22, the total number of summer tourists, team tourists, and hotel guests in Beijing have all increased significantly by 50% compared to the same period in 2019. Through monitoring over 800 three-star and above hotels in Beijing, the average occupancy rate exceeded 80%, and the occupancy rate in the six urban areas reached 90%.
Previously, in response to the heated discussion among netizens that "a monthly salary of 20000 yuan cannot afford to stay in Hanting", the parent company of Hanting Hotels, Huazhu Group, also mentioned in the media that the tourism market is recovering rapidly, and the supply recovery speed of the hotel industry has not yet fully synchronized. The mismatch between supply and demand has led to significant price fluctuations in some popular areas.
According to the 2023 China Hotel Industry Development Report released by the China Hotel Association, as of December 31, 2022, there were 279000 hotel facilities, a decrease of 17.5% from the beginning of 2020; The total number of guest rooms is 14.264 million, a decrease of 19% from the beginning of 2020.
In Li Bowen's view, there is also a cost factor in the recent increase in hotel prices. "Previously, the hotel industry lost many employees. Although the market is recovering rapidly now, there is a significant increase in labor costs."
"In addition, the hotel industry had previously performed relatively poorly, with most hotels facing losses. Now that the tourism industry is recovering, with an increase in passenger traffic, hotels also need to raise prices to make up for the losses," said Li Baiwen.
