Mr. Shen Peng, Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, passed away on August 21, 2023 at 14:55 in Beijing at the age of 92 due to ineffective medical treatment.
Shen Peng, born in September 1931, is from Jiangyin, Jiangsu. He is a renowned calligrapher, poet, art critic, editor and publisher, and one of the first experts with outstanding contributions to the State Council. He has served as the Deputy Editor in Chief and Director of the Editorial and Review Committee of the People's Fine Arts Publishing House, the 4th Chairman and Honorary Chairman of the 5th to 8th Chinese Calligraphers Association, a member of the 8th to 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a member of the Central Museum of Culture and History, the 6th Vice Chairman of the Chinese Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Honorary Member of the Chinese Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Honorary President of the Chinese Poetry and Ci Society, President of the Calligraphy and Seal Engraving Institute of the Chinese National Academy of Painting, and Advisor to the China National. Has won the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Chinese Calligraphy Lanting Award, the Achievement Award of Plastic Arts, the Honorary Award of the Third National Chinese Poetry Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Chinese Arts and Literature Award, the Honorary Award of Chinese Poetry, and the United Nations Academy's World Peace Art Award.
Mr. Shen Peng is a witness and promoter of the prosperity and development of contemporary calligraphy, with remarkable achievements in various fields such as calligraphy creation, academic research, editing and publishing, teaching and education, art criticism, and poetry creation. He has a personalized and unique understanding of art, while giving full understanding and respect to various art genres. His calligraphy follows tradition and is not limited to tradition; Dare to innovate and explore while adhering to aesthetic principles. Mr. Shen Peng is proficient in calligraphy, proficient in clerical and regular script, and has put forward the concept of sustainable development of Chinese calligraphy. He has formulated and implemented the sixteen character policy of "promoting originality, respecting individuality, and advancing both calligraphy and art". Focusing on the research of art and calligraphy theory and practice, I have written over a hundred review articles, including more than 50 collections of review articles such as "Calligraphy and Painting Theory Review", "Shen Peng Calligraphy and Painting Discussion", "Shen Peng Calligraphy and Painting Continuation Discussion", "Calligraphy Ontology and Diversity", and various calligraphy works. I have a passion for traditional Chinese culture and have published over a thousand classical poems. I have also published poetry collections such as "San Yu Yin Cao", "San Yu Xu Yin", "San Yu Re Yin", and "San Yu Poetry Selection". We attach great importance to calligraphy education for young people, call for the popularization of calligraphy knowledge, and devote ourselves to the cultivation of calligraphy talents.
