Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The relevant measures are reasonable and well founded. The Japanese side calls on China to lift restrictions on food imports from Japan
On July 20th, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning presided over a regular press conference.
A reporter asked that due to the issue of Fukushima nuclear contaminated water being discharged into the sea, China has strengthened restrictions on Japanese food imports. The Japanese government has stated that the safety of Japanese food is scientifically guaranteed and plans to call on China to lift import restrictions as soon as possible. What is the response of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to this?
Mao Ning stated that the Chinese government adheres to the people-centered governance philosophy, and we must take responsibility for the health of the people and the marine environment. We oppose Japan's plans to discharge into the sea with reasonable evidence, and take relevant measures with reasonable evidence.
Mao Ning emphasized that China urges Japan to carefully listen to the call of the international community, stop forcefully promoting plans to discharge nuclear contaminated water into the sea, conduct full consultations with neighboring countries with a sincere attitude, dispose of nuclear contaminated water in a responsible manner, and accept strict international supervision.
