Ministry of Foreign Affairs: China's New Energy Vehicles "Sail" towards the Global Economy and Move towards "Green" Energy | China | Ministry of Foreign Affairs
On August 17th, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin presided over a regular press conference.
A reporter asked, according to reports, Moody's analyzed that due to the surge in demand for electric vehicles and the cost advantage of electric vehicle production in China, China is expected to become the world's largest automobile exporter by the end of 2023. What is the spokesperson's comment on this?
Wang Wenbin said that we have taken note of the relevant reports. China's new energy vehicles are driving towards the world, which is a beautiful scenery for the Chinese economy to move towards greenery.
Wang Wenbin said that in recent years, China has continuously promoted the transformation and upgrading of economic and social development, and written a new "green answer sheet" for high-quality development. In the first half of this year, China's new installed capacity of renewable energy reached 109 million kilowatts, accounting for 77% of the total new installed capacity. The national installed capacity of renewable energy reached 1.322 billion kilowatts, historically surpassing coal-fired power. In July this year, the production of new energy vehicles and solar cells increased by 24.9% and 65.1% year-on-year, respectively, and the production of charging stations increased by 26.6% year-on-year.
Wang Wenbin stated that China is focusing on building a modern industrial system and accelerating the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries with new technologies and formats. The number of coal-fired boilers and kilns nationwide has decreased from nearly 500000 to less than 100000, reducing the use of coal by over 400 million tons. The cumulative decrease in value-added energy consumption of industrial units above designated size over the past 10 years has exceeded 36%.
Wang Wenbin introduced that China's green economic development contributes to the global green transformation. The China Green Trade Development Report shows that in 2021, China's green trade volume reached 1161.09 billion US dollars, becoming the world's largest green trade economy. The production and sales of new energy vehicles have ranked first globally for 8 consecutive years. China's production scale of clean energy equipment such as wind power and photovoltaic power generation ranks first in the world, with polycrystalline silicon, silicon wafers, batteries, and modules accounting for over 70% of global production. In the past decade, China's wind power equipment manufacturing output has accounted for more than two-thirds of the global market, exporting to 49 countries and regions worldwide. In the first half of this year, more than 40% of the world's newly installed wind power came from China. We also launched the "the Belt and Road" International Alliance for Green Development with our partners, implemented green and low-carbon transformation cooperation, and provided an in-depth exchange and cooperation platform for the green development of the "the Belt and Road" countries.
Wang Wenbin emphasized that promoting green development is a common cause of all humanity. China will continue to adhere to the new development concept of innovation, coordination, green, openness, and sharing, accelerate the construction of a modern harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, promote higher quality, more efficient, more fair, more sustainable, and safer development, and inject more "green energy" into promoting global sustainable development and jointly building a clean and beautiful world.
