On the 5th, the Chinese Ministry of Education released a statistical report on the development of the national education industry in 2022. The report showed that the number of preschool children in China decreased and the scale of vocational education continued to expand in 2022.
According to the bulletin, there are a total of 518500 schools of all levels and types in China in 2022, with 293 million students and 18.8036 million full-time teachers enrolled in various levels and types of academic education.
According to the bulletin data, in 2022, there were a total of 289200 kindergartens in China, a decrease of 5610 compared to the previous year, a decrease of 1.90%. Among them, there were 245700 inclusive kindergartens, an increase of 1033 or 0.42% compared to the previous year.
There are 46.2755 million preschool children in kindergartens, a decrease of 1.7766 million or 3.70% compared to the previous year. Among them, there were 41.445 million children in inclusive kindergartens, a decrease of 741600 people or 1.76% compared to the previous year, accounting for 89.55% of the total number of children in kindergartens nationwide, an increase of 1.77 percentage points.
In terms of compulsory education, there are a total of 20.16 million schools in the compulsory education stage nationwide. During the compulsory education stage, there were 34.3277 million students enrolled, 159 million students enrolled, and 10.6546 million full-time teachers. The consolidation rate of nine-year compulsory education was 95.5%.
In terms of high school education, there are a total of 15000 ordinary high schools in China, an increase of 441 compared to the previous year, an increase of 3.02%. The enrollment of ordinary high schools was 9.4754 million, an increase of 425900 people or 4.71% compared to the previous year.
In terms of higher education, the communique shows that there are a total of 3013 higher education institutions in China in 2022. Among them, there are 1239 ordinary undergraduate schools, an increase of 1 compared to the previous year; 32 undergraduate level vocational schools; 1489 vocational schools, an increase of 3 compared to the previous year; 253 adult higher education institutions, a decrease of 3 compared to the previous year. There are also 234 research institutions that train graduate students.
The total number of students enrolled in various forms of higher education is 46.55 million, an increase of 2.25 million compared to the previous year. The gross enrollment rate of higher education is 59.6%, an increase of 1.8 percentage points from the previous year. The average size of ordinary undergraduate schools is 16793 people, vocational schools at the undergraduate level have an average size of 19487 people, and vocational schools have an average size of 10168 people.
According to the announcement, in 2022, China's national vocational undergraduate enrollment reached 76300, an increase of 34900 people or 84.39% compared to the previous year. There are also 33100 undergraduate admissions starting from vocational colleges. There were 228700 students on campus, an increase of 99400 or 76.91% compared to the previous year.
It is understood that in recent years, through various efforts, the enrollment scale of vocational education in China has significantly increased. Vocational and vocational schools train about 10 million high-quality technical and skilled talents for the country every year. In terms of talent training scale, vocational and vocational schools have respectively accounted for half of China's high school education and general higher education.
