Today, the Ministry of Commerce held a roundtable meeting for foreign-funded enterprises, mainly listening to the business situation, problem demands, and opinions and suggestions of foreign-funded enterprises in the pharmaceutical industry in China. Representatives from 12 companies, including General Healthcare, Novo Nordisk, Bayer, MSD, Roche, AstraZeneca, Sanofi, Takeda, and Pfizer, attended the meeting.
Wang Wentao, Minister of Commerce, said that China is comprehensively promoting Chinese path to modernization and unswervingly promoting high-level opening up, which will bring more development opportunities for foreign-funded enterprises, including the pharmaceutical industry. The Chinese government prioritizes attracting foreign investment and continuously optimizes the business environment. In 2020, the Ministry of Commerce established a special team for key foreign investment projects under the coordination service mechanism for foreign trade and investment. Over the past three years, the leaders of the Ministry of Commerce have presided over 17 forums for various foreign investment enterprises, fully listening to the demands and suggestions of enterprises, and coordinating to solve hundreds of problems and difficulties.
He pointed out that according to the deployment of the State Council, the Ministry of Commerce relies on the coordination service mechanism for foreign trade and foreign investment, and upgrades the establishment of a roundtable conference system for foreign-funded enterprises on the basis of the existing normalized exchange mechanism. We will organize regular meetings through this institutional arrangement to further expand channels for collecting issues and listening to suggestions, timely respond to and address corporate concerns, and assist foreign-funded enterprises in their long-term and stable development in China.
The attending companies expressed confidence in the prospects of China's economic development and are willing to strengthen communication and exchange with government departments through channels such as foreign-funded enterprise roundtables. The enterprise provided a detailed introduction to the foreign investment operation situation and problems in the pharmaceutical industry, and put forward 25 specific opinions and suggestions.
Representatives of the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Finance, the China National Intellectual Property Administration, the State Health Insurance Administration, the State Food and Drug Administration and other departments attended the meeting and exchanged opinions and suggestions on the site.
