In order to strengthen the unified supervision and management of place name work, standardize the registration and announcement of place names, the Ministry of Civil Affairs issued the "Measures for the Administration of Place Name Registration and Announcement" today. According to the regulations, after naming or renaming a place name, it shall be submitted for filing in accordance with the regulations. The administrative department in charge of place names of the people's government at or above the county level shall, in accordance with the prescribed authority, accept the filing of place names, and be responsible for the review of the filing and the publication of announcements.
After naming or renaming a place name, it shall be announced in accordance with regulations. The content of the announcement shall include the standard name of the place name, the spelling of the Roman alphabet, the jurisdiction, location description, approval authority, approval time, etc. Place name announcements are published through government websites, government new media, government service platforms, newspapers, radio or television, and are also published in the China National Place Name Information Database.
The department responsible for the review of place names approved by the State Council shall proactively contact the administrative department in charge of place names under the State Council, carry out the announcement and release work in accordance with relevant decisions of the State Council, and input place name information into the China National Place Name Information Database.
