Meeting You | 18-year-old College Student Bravely Speeches for Dreams on the Bus | Bus | Dream
"Hello everyone, I am a freshman student from Central South University of Forestry and Technology. I am not here to promote myself, but mainly to briefly introduce myself, share my growth experience and dreams. I hope to break through my introverted personality and change my stuttering problem."
My 18-year-old dares to think, dare to act, dare to act
This video, captured by passengers on the bus, has a total duration of 1 minute and 41 seconds. The male speaker occasionally gets stuck due to nervousness, but it does not affect its ability to be watched by millions of netizens in one second. The boy in the video is called Le Guoqiang, an 18-year-old freshman who has been stuttering since childhood. However, due to his dream of becoming a judge, he chooses to give a speech on the bus, speaking out for his dream and hoping to overcome his stuttering.
In tens of thousands of comments from netizens regarding the speech behavior of Le Guoqiang on the bus, there are praises, doubts, affirmations, and encouragement. It can be seen that 18-year-old teenagers have indeed become popular because of this, but after the popularity, how should they live a good college life? How about realizing your dreams? This is not only the problem that Le Guoqiang is facing at this moment, but also the life direction that millions of students who are about to enter the new classroom after the college entrance examination will consider.
This vegetable market located in Xintian County, Yongzhou, Hunan Province is very familiar to Le Guoqiang. During the summer after the 2022 college entrance examination, he came here almost every day to buy groceries.
Last summer's two month shopping experience made Le Guoqiang dare to communicate face-to-face with strangers. But this time he revisited his hometown, his words still revealed inner tension and awkwardness.
The problem of Guoqiang stuttering occurred during his elementary school years. His parents took him to multiple hospitals, and the doctor's diagnosis was due to psychological reasons. He lacked confidence and was afraid of communicating with others. From elementary school to high school, due to stuttering in his speech, his heart was occupied countless times with tense, anxious, and even resentful emotions. Often the words come to my lips but I can't blurt them out.
Choosing to avoid did not improve Le Guoqiang's stuttering. Later on, even on the phone to his mother, he couldn't shout out the word "mom".
Equally anxious were their parents, who came up with the idea of having Guoqiang go to the vegetable market stall to buy groceries.
In order to take care of Le Guoqiang's tense mood of "the more anxious he is when speaking, the more he gets stuck", the parents changed the verbal "don't rush" to "take it slow" to downplay the thought of "stuttering" in his child's mind.
Yue Guoqiang's mother: Don't remind him of his stuttering at any time.
Le Guoqiang: My parents were worried that saying "don't be nervous" would make me subconsciously think that I have a stutter, so they changed "don't be nervous" to "take it slowly", which to some extent is to bypass this problem. But when I come to university and enter society, I must face this problem.
My dream is to become a judge
At the request of his parents, 17-year-old Le Guoqiang had no choice but to come to the market to buy groceries. Although he hesitated when asked about the price, fortunately he had already taken the first step, which was set by his parents and arranged properly for him. After leaving the family to attend university in Changsha, the language environment also changed accordingly. Le Guoqiang thought that since he couldn't avoid this embarrassing problem, he would no longer dodge it and bravely face it.
Now, 18-year-old Le Guoqiang is about to enter his second year of college, and his relatively free study life has given him more time to think about how to solve his stuttering problem through self-discipline? This time, Guoqiang decided to take the bus and face the problem directly through a speech.
During his studies in Civil Engineering at Central South University of Forestry and Technology, Le Guoqiang listened to legal courses and found his own interests. Despite concerns from his parents and teachers, they ultimately supported his decision to switch majors in the second semester of college.
Le Guoqiang is not the only one who is determined to change. Civil engineering students Fu Luojun and Fu Xincheng have also shown introverted and stage fright in the crowd.
Three young men make plans to take the bus at the school gate at the end of each week and give speeches to a group of strangers on the bus.
When the passenger's gaze turned to him, Le Guoqiang's voice froze again. At this moment, he would clench his fist and continue speaking with encouragement from his companions.
Le Guoqiang: My dream is to become a judge, but I am well aware that if I have a severe stutter, I may not even be able to communicate fluently with others. How can I speak up for justice and help more people in the future? So that's why I made the resolute decision to give my speech on the bus today.
On March 25th this year, Le Guoqiang and his companions gave their first speech on a bus. At that time, the tense emotions made him unable to catch his breath.
On April 25th, one month later, Guoqiang changed his long sleeved shirt to a T-shirt and dared to interact with passengers.
Later, Le Guoqiang went to give a speech on the subway with higher pedestrian traffic. The goodwill of the passengers has become Le Guoqiang's greatest confidence.
Only the time of struggle can be deeply remembered
Since we can't get around the tense emotions, let's face it directly and solve it. From the vegetable market to the bus and then to the subway station, the different dialogue scenes show us the process of Le Guoqiang actively accepting the problem of stuttering and self growth. Among them, there is the participation of parents, the companionship of classmates, and the warm encouragement of strangers.
But for a strong country, adapting to smooth expression and daring to engage in dialogue is far from enough. To become a legal professional, he needs to bridge the gap between knowing and doing, apply the legal knowledge he has learned, and practice his stage fright free skills in public speaking. So, in the mock court debate offered by the law major, Le Guoqiang bravely participated and took another step forward.
In order to test his learning achievements over the past semester, Le Guoqiang signed up to participate in a mock court debate. He switched from a speaker on the bus to a defender in the mock court. Le Guoqiang said that he is not afraid of losing face, and his growth does not have a straight line. Frustration is the best opportunity.
After the mock court ended, Le Guoqiang gave his teacher Hu Zezhen a big hug. The teacher once reminded him, "You have become popular online, but there is nothing different. The road of life is still long, and you cannot be too tight. You should be an ordinary and not mediocre person."
The hesitation in the market, the courage on the bus, the firmness in the debate, and in order to overcome stuttering, Le Guoqiang is breaking through himself step by step. In this process, he gained not only progress in language, but also the joy of growth.
Le Guoqiang: Overcoming stuttering is quite important in itself, but more importantly, I have learned in this process. When I face a problem, I no longer think about bypassing it, but will first think that I must face it directly.
Le Guoqiang: Only when you are striving can you remember it deeply.
