Latin American News Agency reported on June 2 that China and Argentina signed a cooperation plan on jointly promoting the construction of the "the Belt and Road" on June 2. The the Belt and Road Initiative aims to connect this Asian giant with the rest of the world through a huge infrastructure and cooperation network.
The National Development and Reform Commission of China announced that the cooperation plan fully implements the important consensus of the leaders of China and Argentina on high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road", follows the principles of consultation, joint construction and sharing, adheres to the concept of openness, green and integrity, and aims at high standards, sustainability and people's well-being.
The cooperation plan aims to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides in areas such as infrastructure, energy, economy and trade, finance, and culture.
The National Development and Reform Commission of China said that the signing of the cooperation plan is of great significance for deepening political mutual trust and strategic docking between the two countries, and will further promote the deepening and implementation of the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" between the two countries.
The cooperation plan was signed during the visit of Argentine Minister of Economy Massa to China.
According to the website of the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong on June 2nd, Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao held talks with visiting Argentine Minister of Economy Massa on June 1st. He expressed that China is willing to work with Afghanistan to promote exchanges and dialogue at all levels in the economic and trade field, and deepen practical cooperation in multiple bilateral fields.
According to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, Wang Wentao also stated that China welcomes Argentine enterprises and products to enter China, and hopes that Argentina can provide an open, fair, and non discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises, promoting high-quality development of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
Massa stated on Twitter that the two countries are "committed to continuing to strengthen bilateral trade by opening up new markets.".
During this visit to China, Massa also held talks with senior executives of the Export Import Bank of China.
China is striving to expand its footprint in South America. In the region, Brazil and Argentina have started using the Chinese yuan for trade settlement, and Ecuador recently signed a free trade agreement with China.
Alicia Garcia Erero, an economist at the French Foreign Trade Bank, said, "Argentina uses RMB swap lines, which allows Argentina to pay for imported goods, many of which will come from China."
She said, "Besides, Argentina has extremely abundant key raw materials, and Brazil is no exception."
