Many parts of the country have broken this international convention, and a museum in Nanjing has cancelled its "Monday closure"
On July 31st, it was learned from the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism that in order to meet the public's visiting needs to the greatest extent, from that day until October 8th, the Nanjing Six Dynasties Museum has cancelled its closure on Monday, and citizens and tourists can visit every day from Monday to Sunday.
Closing on Monday is an international practice, mainly to allow time for the rest and maintenance of museum facilities and cultural relics. It is chosen to close on the first working day of the week and the Monday with low passenger flow. Generally speaking, on that day, museums will arrange for frontline staff to take a day off, while other personnel work normally. Equipment inspection, maintenance, and some cultural relics protection work will also be scheduled during this period. It is understood that after the opening of the Six Dynasties Museum on Monday, the equipment maintenance and cultural relic protection work hours have been adjusted accordingly, and the staff have started work early and postponed leaving work.
From the early 3rd century to the end of the 6th century AD, the six dynasties of Eastern Wu, Eastern Jin, Song, Qi, Liang, and Chen established their capital in Nanjing, known as the "Six Dynasties" in history. At the beginning of this century, the ruins of the capital city of the Six Dynasties were discovered in Nanjing, and the Six Dynasties Museum was subsequently established and opened in August 2014. Song Yan, the executive vice curator, said in an interview with the media that since this year, there has been a "museum craze" all over the country, and many museums are hard to get a ticket. The National Cutural Heritage Administration recently requested popular venues to meet the public's needs for viewing to a greater extent through appropriate extension of opening hours and other ways according to the actual situation. The "eternal beauty" special exhibition planned by the Six Dynasties Museum this year was praised, and in order to let more audiences enjoy it, it tried to open on Monday.
Pengpai News found that starting from July 31st, the opening hours of 52 municipal state-owned museums in Hangzhou have been adjusted, and classified and staggered opening will be implemented. Citizens and tourists can visit museums every day, breaking the tradition of "closing on Monday" at the city level. After the adjustment, 11 museums are open every day, 17 are closed on Tuesdays, and the remaining 24 remain in their original state. As an ancient capital of thirteen dynasties, Luoyang in Henan Province explored the cancellation of the "Monday closure" of museums during important local festivals and holidays many years ago. During the Luoyang Peony Culture Festival in April and May this year, various museums were open every day.
