Ma Ying jeou harshly criticizes Tsai Ing wen for being heartless and unjust towards "comfort women". World "Comfort Women" Memorial Day Comfort Women | Mainland | Tsai Ing wen
Today is the World Comfort Women Memorial Day.
According to the official Weibo account of the Nanjing Massacre Martyrs Memorial Hall of the Japanese Invading Army, from 1931 to 1945, over 200000 Chinese women were forcibly conscripted as "comfort women" by the invading Japanese army. They suffered from torture, some died from abuse, but the Japanese right wing has no bottom line denying history! Today, there are less than 20 survivors of the "comfort women" system in Chinese Mainland. Their pain cannot be forgotten, they are still waiting for an apology! Don't forget history, pass on the truth!
At the event, Ma Ying jeou and others jointly requested the Tsai administration to accelerate legislation on restoring the reputation and compensation of "comfort women", demanded a public apology from the Japanese government, and set up a "comfort women" human rights monument.
Ma Ying jeou said that six years ago, former Kuomintang citizen of Tainan City proposed to erect a bronze statue of "comfort women". He agreed and assisted in writing explanations in both Chinese and English. However, after the Democratic Progressive Party came to power, it deliberately erased the history of "comfort women" and kowtowed to Japan, which was despicable. Ma Ying jeou stated that "comfort women" means "military slaves", and hundreds of thousands of women have been victimized, but the Japanese government is still unwilling to apologize.
Ma Ying jeou mentioned that in 2015, a women's group produced "Song of the Reed". Tsai Ing wen, who was running for Taiwan's leadership at the time, watched the documentary and said she saw the history and life journey of Taiwanese comfort women. After taking office, Tsai Ing wen passed the so-called "Promotion of Transitional Justice Act" in 2017, but ignored the issue of "comfort women".
Ma Ying jeou stated at the scene that despite having legal basis, he was unwilling to demand an apology or compensation from the Japanese side on behalf of the "comfort woman" grandmother. Tsai Ing wen spoke and acted in a way that was heartless and unjust towards the "comfort woman", which is not only regrettable but also infuriating.
Tong Xiaoyun said that this joint petition requires accelerated legislation to restore the reputation and compensation of "comfort women", and the establishment of the "Comfort Women" Foundation, which explicitly demands Japan to publicly apologize, compensate, and restore the reputation and dignity of "comfort women". The Taiwan authorities should set up a "Comfort Women" human rights monument, commemorative bronze statue, and commemorative foundation, and designate August 14th as the "Comfort Women" Human Rights Memorial Day "every year.
