Lula's first response, Bosonaro sentenced to 8 years in the election | Lula | Bosonaro
According to a report by Efi, Brazilian President Lula stated on July 1st that the ruling of the Brazilian High Electoral Court, which sentenced former Brazilian President Bosonaro to 8 years of deprivation of political rights, will not threaten the peace of the government. According to the report, after bidding farewell to the Brazilian women's football team who will compete in the Women's World Cup, Lula said in a brief statement to reporters, "This is a matter of the judiciary and will not affect the peace of the government." The report pointed out that this is Lula's first response after the Brazilian High Electoral Court stripped Bosonaro of his candidacy before 2030. Bosonaro's charges include abuse of power and improper use of public media in the 2022 election, in which he lost to Lula by less than two percentage points. The reason for Bosonaro's punishment is that he repeatedly harshly criticized the credibility of Brazil's electronic voting system, as well as the judiciary itself and democratic system, during the election campaign in October last year. Suspending Bosonaro's political rights will prevent him from running for elected or public administration positions until the presidential election in October 2030, when he will turn 75 years old. The report suggests that although supporters of the ruling Labor Party who share the same interests as Lurazhi are celebrating the court's ruling, this may cause a readjustment of parliamentary power and create difficulties for projects that the government is interested in to pass. This is because in the October election last year, Bosonaro won about 49% of the vote, and now not only Bosonaro's right-wing allies, but also the centrist leaders currently allied with Lula are starting to compete for this portion of the vote.
